The City of Murcia is already working on the planting of more than 30,000 geraniums for the Spring Festival.
In order to carry out these works, students from CEOM (Association for the Integration of Persons with Disabilities) have also been doing a course on 'Auxiliary activities in nurseries, gardens and level 1 gardening centers'.

Some works, made during the past month of February, that go through different phases: preparation of the substrate, filling the pots where the plants will go, planting these, location in the protected greenhouse that the City Council has in the Municipal Nursery of the Mayayo, and placement of your personalized drip irrigation system.
"The people who help us in these jobs are being trained, and at the same time, they are participating in a project where they develop social integration and teamwork, and in these jobs they can have a real contact with the working world, learn a job, besides assuming an important satisfaction of a job well done at a personal and professional level, "added José Guillén.
The Municipal Nursery of Mayayo is a clear example of teamwork and especially integration, having staff with disabilities hired by the City of Murcia, as well as through agreements with CEOM in which many young people with intellectual disabilities work and learn.
In particular, it has worked intensively to plant more than 5,000 geraniums per day, and thus get a quick and effective improvement in the green areas of Murcia for their Spring holidays.
For this, we have had two teams of ten people trained only by these groups of people with disabilities.
The City Council has also carried out various improvements in Mayayo facilities, such as, for example, the repair of several greenhouses, the placement of protective plastics for structures, two new irrigation booths, the leveling of different greenhouses, the installation of mesh antihierbas, installation of modern irrigation systems, as well as several other projects that are underway, in order to turn this municipal space into a key center in the production of plants for public use, as well as place of training and socio-labor integration.
