The City Council has prepared a special device against the forecasts of heavy rains and storms of the State Meteorological Agency for the next few days.
This special device is made up of different municipal services such as Local Police, Civil Protection, Fire, Traffic, Murcia Waters, Road Cleaning, Public Lighting and Parks and Gardens.
In this way, a special Local Police surveillance and control of the floodplain areas of the municipality is activated, which will be operational for as long as these weather conditions last.
The operating units of the city and districts will periodically review, according to the advance of the precipitations, all those places where there are risks due to water accumulations or cuts of roads and streets due to the existence of ramblas or natural steps of rainwater.
The agents, depending on the experience in other episodes of rain, will establish different control points although they will pay special attention to Espinardo, Beniaján, Sangonera la Seca, Cabezo de Torres, Churra, La Alberca and Sangonera la Verde because these are the most affected when it rains.
What is intended with this plan is to intervene as quickly as possible and immediately respond to the requirements of the residents of the municipality to minimize the effects of possible heavy rains, establishing priority actions.
The Local Police will be in charge of coordinating the entire operation that has to act when a warning bulletin is received due to adverse meteorological phenomenon from the State Meteorological Agency.
In addition, the Local Police deploy their troops in urban areas and districts to take the necessary measures to regulate and cut traffic, using fences and police tape.
Likewise, it is controlled that there are no incidents that endanger people and vehicles.
The Firemen are in charge, prioritizing the actions, of rescuing those people and drivers who are trapped in a flooded area, putting out fires in electrical lines, draining water and draining flooded basins.
Civil Protection volunteers will form a checkpoint to collaborate with Local Police and Firemen in those situations that are necessary.
On the other hand, the Cleaning Services will work on the elimination of water bags and puddles by means of vacuum machinery, placement of the displaced containers and cleaning of the drag caused by the rain.
The operators of the Park and Garden Service have already reviewed the large trees in those sensitive areas to foresee possible falls of branches and cleaned the leaves and scuppers located in the gardens.
In addition, sand has been collected as an initial shock measure to avoid flooding in case of flooding.
