Members of the Podemos-Equo candidacy for the City of Murcia have held a meeting with the rector of the University of Murcia, José Luján, to which they have transferred several proposals of the electoral program directly related to university life and the student community.
Ginés Ruiz Maciá and Clara Martínez Baeza, numbers 1 and 2 respectively of the candidature of Podemos-Equo to the City of Murcia, have held a meeting with the rector of the University of Murcia, José Luján, with the aim of knowing the level of collaboration of both institutions and propose measures contemplated in the program that have as protagonists the public university and the student community.
In this sense, the candidates have transferred to the rector the importance of articulating an "effective and efficient" mobility plan that facilitates the transfer of students to the Espinardo campus and, in the future, to the Health campus, in the Palmar, place with a manifest deficiency in this regard.
In addition, they have put in value the need to create a more operative streetcar line for students and direct bike lanes to the campus.
On the other hand, Ruiz Maciá and Martínez Baeza have also put on the table their intention to strengthen the study rooms in the neighborhoods and districts so that the libraries and rooms of the university are not so saturated and for the students of these areas Do not have to travel to the center or the Espinardo campus to prepare your exams.
An important point that has been discussed in the meeting has been the problem of rent.
"The students are suffering in their flesh the speculation of certain owners who take advantage of taking to the market houses in bad conditions at exorbitant prices".
In this regard, Ginés Ruiz Maciá stressed that Erasmus students suffer this situation in a more bloody manner.
Therefore, they have proposed to the rector the creation of a rental office with special clauses for the university community.
For their part, since Podemos-Equo have highlighted their intention to propose that the City Council join the Erasmus scholarships by contributing a sum to the students of the city participating in this European program, adding more resources to facilitate the departure of young people to the Foreign.
On the cultural level, both parties have agreed on the need for the City Council and the University of Murcia to collaborate actively to design offers of cultural leisure that take young people out of, for example, bookmakers.
"We are worried that young people have nowhere to go, we have to create an important cultural leisure offer together, because the university has the forms, the personnel and the buildings and the City Council has to put itself at their disposal", said Clara Martínez Baeza .
"It seems fundamental that the University of Murcia and the City Council actively collaborate to design a bag of cultural leisure for young people," reiterated Ginés Ruiz Maciá.
Another point discussed has been the importance of Murcia becoming a university city.
In this sense, Ruiz Maciá has expressed the need for a new city model, "friendly and sustainable, more livable for young people" so that from other points of the world "they see us as a priority destination".
For this, the candidate for mayor of Murcia has highlighted by Podemos-Equo, "we have to promote the city both within Spain and outside and for this we have to create special services that make it more attractive for students."
