The cane is a material that has been part of the daily life of the huertanos, serving for construction of barracks, fences, shadows, and many other everyday elements present in our garden
Murcia is preparing for its Spring Festival and the Department of Modernization of Urban Administration and Development led by José Guillén has organized a workshop of bioconstruction with cane whose objective is the development of one of the facilities for these days of parties.
"We have proposed the use of a local material, abundant and renewable to build, with a mixture of tradition and avant-garde, resistant structures for any use. This plant installation will become a shaded space in the city to host various activities during our parties. It is a tribute to our roots and our Huerta "José Guillén has highlighted.
Vaults covered with hurdle will be built and accompanied by natural vegetation, with a dimension of 7 meters and between 2.80 and 5 meters high.
They will be composed of a set of arches, pillars, ribs and belts that, linked together, define a vaulted space, with a marked polygonal geometry.
The course will take place from April 16 to 20 and will take place in two phases.
A first phase will be carried out in the Fofó garden, where all the structural elements will be prepared.
And a second, assembly in its final location.
The schedule will be morning and afternoon, from 9:00 to 14:00 and from 16:00 to 19:00, adding a total of 40 hours, including the theoretical sessions.
The objective of the course is the theoretical and practical training in all phases of execution of organic cane structures.
The content is divided into 8 thematic blocks that will be worked in an integrated manner during the process through theoretical classes and practical sessions during the execution of the riverbank ecosystem, the cane as a species, collection system, natural cycles, properties of the cane, methodology for the making of structural arches, introduction to the design of spaces formed by organic structures and geometries.
The course will be taught by the team of professionals of the Cooperativa Econstrucción, which for more than six years have been developing projects of bioconstruction and vernacular architecture, as well as courses, seminars and workshops.

The cane, a fundamental material for huertanos
The cane is a material that has been part of the daily life of the huertanos, serving to build barracks, fences, shadows, and many other everyday elements present in our garden.
The cane harvest favors the biodiversity of the fluvial ecosystem, contributing to the elimination of this invasive species through non-polluting methods, thus allowing the development of the riparian species.
This promotes environmental awareness through the enhancement of the natural resources of the place, causing reflection on the possibilities of them.
In addition to considering the development of healthy and habitable spaces.
