In an event held this afternoon have been presented the summer activities and courses of the XXXVI edition of the International University of the Sea-Mare Nostrum Campus, organized by the Universities of Murcia and Cartagena.
The act has been held since 18 hours in the Assembly Hall of the Faculty of Informatics of the Campus of Espinardo of the UMU, and has been chaired by the Rectors of the Universities of Murcia and Cartagena, José Luján Alcaraz and Alejandro Díaz Morcillo respectively ;
the General Director of Universities and Research of the CARM, Juan Monzó Cabrera;
the vice-chancellor of Employment, Entrepreneurship and Society of the UMU, Alicia Rubio Bañón;
the vice-chancellor of Students, University Extension and Sports of the UPCT, Sergio Amat Plata, and Mercedes Bernabé Pérez, director of the International University of the Sea and Permanent Headquarters of the UMU.
The 2019 edition covers almost a hundred courses and activities, specifically 99, of which 59 are organized by the University of Murcia and 40 by Cartagena, spread over a total of 15 sites distributed throughout the Region of Murcia: Águilas, Cartagena, Cartagena-Navy Diving Center, Military Parachute School-Sewer Air Base, La Union, Lorca, Los Alcázares, Mazarrón, Molina de Segura, Mula, Murcia, San Javier, San Pedro del Pinatar and Yecla.
Although it is the summer courses of the universities of Murcia and Cartagena, the offer extends throughout all the seasons of the year, since the first summer course began on March 8 in Mazarrón and the last act is scheduled for October 29 in Cartagena, although it will be the months of July and September that will register the largest number of programmed training actions.
The 99 activities that have been presented today address issues of diverse nature and great relevance for the different branches of scientific, technical, cultural, artistic and sports knowledge, and are the result of a call that annually makes the International University of the Sea and those that They presented more than 120 proposals between both universities.
The vice-chancellor Alicia Rubio has highlighted the increase in courses compared to last year, going from 76 to 99, and expressed her desire to go from 2500 students to 3000. She alluded to the disappearance of the paper for this edition and a decisive bet by social networks and video format.
He highlighted the increase in summer schools compared to the previous edition, since the traditional headquarters of Computing, Biology and Fine Arts, this year the schools of Economy and Business and Communication are incorporated.
It is about schools, he said, that try to provide future university students, from an eminently practical perspective "the studies and training we offer", and thanked the sponsors for the trust and generosity they place in these courses.
Learn with scientific rigor
Mercedes Bernabé Pérez, director of the International University of the Sea and Permanent Headquarters of the UMU, spoke at the ceremony that these courses open the doors of universities that organize them to society, and allow "debate and learn with scientific rigor that characterizes us about contents that can not always be addressed during the academic year with the level of depth and detail that we do in our courses, or have speakers, experts and professionals from certain subjects or areas of knowledge ".
Juan Monzó, General Director of Universities and Research of the Autonomous Community of Murcia, highlighted the importance of these courses, which open the university to other areas through university extension, "taking knowledge to different locations in the region and sharing it with our citizens, "and said that at the moment, in which fake news and ignorance are just a click away from anyone," our universities, which treasure knowledge, are open to those people who are looking for quality information. Alejandro Díaz Morcillo, Rector of the University of Cartagena, highlighted the variety and quality of the courses, which implies that the fourth mission of the university, the dissemination of knowledge, is guaranteed.
He alluded to that the offer of the UPCT is not "far from it, a replica of what we already do or our own titles", and pointed out that the courses offered by his university are of Painting, History, Literature, Law, Philosophy, Speech, Security and Defense, Psychology, Photography, Sign Language, Emotional Education, Cultural Heritage, Sport, Diving, Technology, Architecture or Economy and Business, "something that we offer to the society of the Region of Murcia with all our commitment to service "
He stressed that the offer of his university for this course is 1250 places.
The event was closed by the Rector of the UMU, José Luján, who emphasized the fact that the one that was being held is the presentation of the XXXVI edition of the International University of the Sea Campus Mare Nostrum and what this means in these times in the that every day something new is being reinvented, sometimes forgetting about our past, and "we must not forget that before us there were other professionals who believed that this was necessary and started this journey", it was in 1984 when this began, and thanks to that, "the University began to better serve the society to which it was owed, and thanks to it, today we are here presenting a consistent and nurtured programming".
