For 24 hours, seven teams have developed an innovative and technological solution to a social challenge.
The winner, SIET has created an App that through an optical character reader (OCR) is able to recognize and catalog the ingredients of a product, a very useful information to detect allergens.
This weekend, the UCAM has become the only headquarters in the Region where the Hack For Good was held, a university meeting of 'good' hackers organized by the Technological Institute of Murcia (ITM) and the Network of Telefónica Chairs in 10 Spanish cities, with the aim of responding to social challenges that build a better world.
In this edition, seven groups of students have developed their innovative and technological solution to a social problem, guided by professors of the Degree in Computing of the UCAM, volunteers of Telefónica and in this occasion, by Javier Iniesta and Juan Fernando Hernández, two winners of the Hack For Good 2017 edition.
This year's winning project Should I eat this?
SIET, is an application that through a code OCR reads and recognizes the ingredients of a food product and transforms it into information for the vegan, celiac, vegetarian or allergic consumer to certain foods.
The second prize was received by a group of students who designed ECOBOX, a domestic ecological container that allows the reuse of organic waste producing methane gas for subsequent reuse.
The third prize went to CUÃDAME, an App that puts pet owners in contact with professional caregivers.
The winners now have the opportunity to present their application at the National HackForGood, where they will compete with local winners from all over Spain.
An award that was earned in 2017 by SAMEBullying, an application developed in the UCAM, which through artificial intelligence applied to social networks makes an early detection of cyberbullying, sending alarms to the educational and family community.
At this moment, this team of graduates of the UCAM has signed a collaboration agreement with Clikedu, a school management platform that includes more than 600 schools.
