The Councilor for Social Rights, Conchita Ruiz, delivered this morning the Equality in Sports Award to CEIP Rio Segura de Javalí Nuevo and IES La Flota.
This award was created in 2010 with the purpose of recognizing educational centers and teachers that have promoted greater female participation in the teams and activities of the School Sports Program.
The current II Plan for Equality of Opportunities between Women and Men of the City of Murcia includes this action as a means to achieve the promotion of gender equality in sport.
Specifically, the Prize for Equality in Sport aims to promote the value of competition among female students, break sexist stereotypes in the practice of competitive sport since childhood and promote the effective exercise of the principle of equality of opportunities and treatment in the sports field in a general way and specifically in the field of competition among children and young people, as an element of consolidation of the principles of equality and non-discrimination in the future.
In addition, this measure has a positive impact on the breakdown of sexist stereotypes in the field of sport. This measure is carried out throughout the educational community: teachers and families of the students, as it promotes the participation of girls in sports competitions. by teams and their maintenance in these competitions beyond 12 years, age in which there is a significant decline in female participation in sports competition in general and teams in particular.
For this reason, two prizes are awarded, one for Primary Education Centers, as had been done so far, and a second prize for secondary schools.
The CEIP Rio Segura de Javalí Nuevo has a majority participation of girls (62) with respect to the participation of children (42) in the Regional Championship of School Sports.
Girls break stereotypes by competing in masculinized sports like Mate and Rugby Touch.
In the IES La Flota have participated in the Regional Championship of School Sports 105 girls in front of the 77 boys, in the team modality.
