-Now Murcia will take a motion to the plenary on April 2 for the City Council to increase urban green areas and favor the naturalization of the municipality through the rehabilitation and revegetation of "marginal" and degraded spaces (parterres and alcorques, medians or unused land) .
- Councilwoman Alicia Morales will urge in the motion to plant and fix the hundreds of square meters of parterres of the Avenida de La Fama, which are in a state of total abandonment.
- For the municipal training the management of green areas of the team of Ballesta is generating huge imbalances between some areas and others of the municipality and calls for an equal management and that does not leave any neighborhood or district behind.
Now Murcia will take to the plenary on April 2 a motion for the City Council to increase urban green areas and favor the naturalization of the municipality through the rehabilitation and revegetation of "marginal" and degraded spaces, such as parterres and alcorques, medians, ditches or solar in disuse.
For municipal training no one is already questioning the importance of green areas to achieve healthier and more livable cities, to fight against pollution and the consequences of climate change and counteract the effects of motor traffic that invades the current cities.
The Councilor Alicia Morales affirms that "a green and naturalized municipality helps to reverse as much as possible the consequences of the waterproofing of the soil and to soften the landscapes of concrete and cement that predominate in our cities".
"In addition - Morales continues - multiple studies have also shown the direct benefits of the abundance of trees and vegetation in urban environments on the life, mental health and welfare of its inhabitants."
Therefore, Murcia now presents this motion that aims to advance initiatives that allow the integration of nature in urban spaces, an issue that for municipal training should be one of the priorities of municipal management.
As Morales explains, in addition to traditional parks and gardens "we must also take care of those spaces that we could call" marginal ": we speak of gutters, party walls, tree-beds and parterres of the trees of alignment, disused plots of land and even others that in many cities are already using to integrate nature into the urban environment, such as vertical gardens or gardens on roofs and roofs, ultimately it is a question of converting this type of space, often degraded and in a state of semi-abandonment, to achieve greener and more environmentally sustainable cities and, also, to have nicer and more pleasant cities ".
In the opinion of Murcia Now in this policy of renaturation of urban space there is much work to be done and considers that in this issue the actions being carried out by the Government of Ballesta are generating large imbalances between some areas of the municipality.
While in the center the gardens and parterres are well maintained and maintained, in other neighborhoods and districts the green areas are very abandoned and there are many spaces completely degraded.
For Now Murcia a clear case of these imbalances is the one of the Avenue of the Fame, that is a fundamental artery of Murcia of more than 900 meters in length and that is marked in its two borders by big parterres for the trees of alignment.
These parterres as a whole make up hundreds of square meters, which are reservoirs of soil and that today are completely unused and have a sorry state of abandonment, without vegetation and also full of oxidized hydrants and in poor condition that could cause a danger for pedestrians.
Therefore in the motion will be asked to be fixed and provide vegetation.
The Councilor Morales recalls that the municipal government recently announced that Murcia will be the headquarters in the year 2020 of the National Congress of Parks and Public Gardens.
"We believe it is an ideal opportunity for our City Council to give a decisive boost to the initiatives of renaturalization of our municipality and demonstrate that it is committed to an integral and equal management of our green areas, which includes all our neighborhoods and districts without leaving any behind".
