Huermur celebrates this incoación and hopes that the Ministry of Culture does not rest on its laurels, and finish in time and form the record of this important historical heritage of the city of Murcia, whose construction was completed in 1742

The Association for the Conservation of the Garden and the Heritage of Murcia (Huermur) celebrates the recent initiation of the BIC protection file with the monument category of the Old Bridge or the Dangers of Murcia, after the protection request of Huermur last month of August.

From the conservationist organization point out that it has made a very important step for the protection of this historic viaduct whose construction was completed in the year 1742, and which is closely linked to the history of the city, the Segura River and the huerta of Murcia.

In the same sense, from Huermur hope that the Ministry of Culture and the Directorate General of Cultural Property, in charge of processing, do not rest on their laurels and finish the protection file in due time that marks the heritage regulations, and it does not expire again as happened with the previous file, which was also requested by the collective.

Huermur stresses the need to carry out a shock plan immediately on the centennial viaduct, since today it has numerous damages, subsidence, weeds in the masonry, cracks, pipes and cables, which would not comply with the provisions of the regulations for the protection of historical heritage, for which reason it will request its immediate adaptation to the administrations.

The conservation organization celebrates that even the own resolution of the Council for the initiation BIC of the bridge, recognizes the great values ​​of this important patrimony, of which Huermur has been demanding its protection as BIC since before 2015. Reaching to recognize that it has an outstanding value cultural for the Region of Murcia, since it is an essential element in the configuration of the urban landscape of Murcia and in the relationship of the city with the Segura River.

In conjunction with the image of the tower of the Cathedral and the buildings of the old Arenal, it is the most emblematic image of Murcia, as a city emerged under the protection of the Segura River and its orchard.

Remarking that the Old Bridge is located in the place of confluence of the main itineraries of the old medieval city, constituting itself in the generating element of its expansion and true node of the urban plot of Murcia.
