The Foundation brings together 300 prestigious researchers from around the country
"In science we have to improve in all aspects in Spain, from investing more to better organize ourselves, and prioritize certain issues," said José Antonio Gutiérrez, director of the Gadea Foundation for Science, at the UCAM on the occasion of the presentation of the Foundation in the Region.
In the act they have intervened with Gutiérrez, Estrella Núñez, vice chancellor of Research of the Catholic University of San Antonio and Javier Celdrán, employment counselor, Universities, Business and Environment of the CARM.
The Gadea Foundation aims to bring together the interest of scientists from all areas of knowledge, and in just over a year and a half are already 275 researchers of the highest level, gathered in 12 fields.
"Willing to assert the opinion of scientists when defining scientific policies in Spain," said José Antonio Gutiérrez, who stressed that when politicians will make decisions regarding science, "they should listen to the who know about her. "
Situation of science in the Region
As indicated by the director of Gadea, "the Region of Murcia is among those who really bet on science, if we put ourselves in the comparative of the country", but has qualified that "has to do much more, like everyone else."
The counselor Javier Celdrán, after highlighting the work of the UCAM in the development of the Region for the qualification of its staff, has stated that the Regional Government has always worked with researchers.
He also stressed the importance of research not only being developed and financed by public administrations, but also public-private collaboration: "That more and more companies are involved in science and there are more scientists than they can collaborate with the business sector so that this talent top can become an innovation ".
On the other hand, Estrella Núñez, Vice Chancellor of Research of the UCAM, has highlighted the important role that science represents at the Catholic University of Murcia.
"We invest a lot of money, and the results back us up.In the last three years we have grown more than 150% in impact publications collected in the JCR", he assured.
The event was also attended by Professor Javier García Martínez, expert in inorganic chemistry and director of the Molecular Nanotechnology Laboratory of the University of Alicante;
the professor Carmen Herrero Blanco, expert in Fundamentals of Economic Analysis of the same university;
Professor Carlos García Izquierdo, from the area of ​​Soil Biochemistry, Organic Waste and Bioremediation Processes of the Center for Edaphology and Applied Biology of Segura (CEBAS) -CSIC, and Professor Manuel Vidal, Director of the Laboratory of Experimental Ophthalmology of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Murcia, who have analyzed the situation of science in Spain.
Four researchers from the Region in Gadea
The presentation was attended by representatives of numerous Murcian institutions, from the three universities of the Region, scientific academies, professional associations, research centers, companies, technology centers and other entities committed to the advancement of science in the Region of Murcia and the transfer of knowledge for the benefit of society.
The Gadea Foundation for Science counts among its members of the Scientific Committee with researchers from the Region of Murcia: Estrella Núñez, Pablo Artal, Carlos García and Manuel Vidal.
Also members of this Committee are other internationally renowned scientists such as Margarita Salas, Juan Carlos Izpisúa, Francisco Mojica, Pedro Cavadas, Rafael Matesanz, Maria Teresa Miras, Mariano Barbacid, Maria Blasco, Catalina Ruiz and Alberto Ruiz, among others.
