The University of Murcia has hosted the conference 'Quality and governance in production chains.
The case of the agrifood industry in Murcia ", given by María Elena Gadea Montesinos, professor of the Department of Sociology of the UMU and coordinator in the master's degree in Applied Sociology of the UMU.
The conference focused on the transformation that has occurred over time in quality systems in the production and distribution of food, that is, how the way in which they are produced, manipulated and distributed has been transformed. products for final consumption.
In the words of the speaker, "the common thread of these production and distribution systems focuses on quality, as well as the different protocols and certifications that must be carried out by the agents involved, the characteristics that the products must have. so they can reach the market, etc ... "
This modernization and transformation, he added, "is due to the fact that food has become a commodity, which requires the standardization of products, the reduction of the number of varieties and the search for greater benefits for the company".
During the talk, emphasis was also placed on the transformation that the agrarian zones are undergoing, because the consumer is becoming more demanding, something that is leading to modify the ways of life and culture, "giving priority to agriculture more expansive and losing sight of the traditional ".
