"We carry out various techniques that do not harm the environment to preserve our green spaces in perfect condition and that all the residents of the municipality can enjoy them without any risk." Palm trees are symbols of our garden, so we have special care with them and we protect them so that they continue being part of our most traditional landscape "José Guillén has highlighted
The City of Murcia, through the Department of Modernization of Urban Administration and Development directed by José Guillén, has launched a system to catch the red palm weevil, which damages the palm trees of the municipality.
The traps allow the control and measurement of the weevil to take care of the green areas of the municipality.
This initiative consists of placing, strategically, boxes in the ground with pheromones that attract the insects, in this way, the weevil enters the holes and is trapped inside.
In this way, Parks and Gardens continues to innovate and move forward in the elimination and detention of this insect with the new 'flight capture' system.
Likewise, information is also collected on when the most delicate dates of the year are due to the distribution of the pest, which allows the deployment of more measures to tackle it.
"We carry out various techniques that do not harm the environment to preserve our green spaces in perfect condition and that all residents of the municipality can enjoy them without any risk.
The palm trees are symbols of our garden, so we take special care with them and protect them so that they continue to be part of our traditional landscape, "said José Guillén.
This system is complementary to the different treatments that are used in the more than 15,000 palm trees that exist in the municipality of Murcia and are carried out in carefully thought places to remove the palm weevil and that do not generate any incidence to people or animals. .
