The University of Murcia (UMU) hosts the day 'Reviewing imaginaries by means of comics: The Arab-Islamic world seen by the students' this Friday, March 15.
The event, framed within the cultural activities of the Faculty of Education, is held in the Giner de los Ríos Campus of the Espinardo Campus, room 0.12, from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 a.m.
The activity, promoted by the group SIRA of study of the Arab comic, seeks to break with the prejudices of the Arab world through the comic and apply it to education.
It seeks to promote the comic as a tool to disseminate knowledge among students and promote the graphic novel as a tool to promote a realistic perception of disadvantaged and / or marginal groups.
After the presentation, which will take place at 10:30 am, and in which the director of the Cómic Classroom of the Culture Department of the University of Murcia María Abellán will participate, this event will begin which in its first part will be made up of talks 'Arabity and Islam: lies and truths (or prejudices and knowledge)' and 'Development of intercultural competence in the classroom through comics', taught by UMU professors Pilar Garrido and Leonor Ruiz Guerrero, respectively.
The second part of the act will be completed with a workshop for Primary Education students, focused on developing didactic proposals from the Arabic-themed comic.
At the end a round table is scheduled in which all the members of the SIRA group will participate, who will be in charge of evaluating the proposals and guiding the students for their improvement.
The SIRA group is formed by Leonor María Ruiz Guerrero, associate professor of the Faculty of Education of the UMU;
Pilar Garrido Clemente, professor of the Faculty of Letters of the UMU;
Delfina Roca Marín, Associate Professor of the Faculty of Communication and Documentation of the UMU and Pedro Rojo Pérez, President of the Al Fanar Foundation for Arabic Knowledge.
The drawings made by students will be part of a sample that will be exhibited in different faculties of the UMU among which are the Faculty of Education and Communication and Documentation.
