The University of Murcia delivers the scholarships 'Juan Cuello' and 'Rotary Club' to talented students (12/03/2019)

The University of Murcia has delivered on Tuesday the scholarships 'Juan Cuello' and the aid 'Rotary Club' for students with good academic records in an act that has taken place in the gallery of Rectors of the convalescent building.

The aid to the study 'Juan Cuello' comes from a donation of 20,000 euros that the professor emeritus of the UMU made in 2016 to reward talented students who began their studies in Biological and Chemical Sciences.

The first edition of these scholarships awarded 12,000 euros among six students last year.

In this second edition, the allocation of the remaining 8,000 euros has fallen to Raquel García García;

student of the degree in Biochemistry;

Marina Martín de Valmaseda Sánchez, student of the degree in Biotechnology;

Laura Godoy Medrano and Pedro González Romero, both of the Biology degree, who have received grants amounting to 2,000 euros each.

Juan Cuello, professor emeritus of the UMU, said he was very grateful to the institution "to which I esteem so much and for which I wanted to do something, specifically for its students".

It has also encouraged the beneficiaries to make the most of these grants, as well as to take advantage of all the resources that the university puts at their disposal, "something that in my student days was much more limited".

On the other hand, the University of Murcia has also delivered the grants 'Rotary Club Murcia-University' and 'Rotary Club Murcia', aimed at students who attend the first master's course.

These are two grants, amounting to 1,500 euros each, which have received Corpus Navalón Guzmán and María Piqueras Pérez, both students of the master's degree in Teacher Training Secondary Education, Baccalaureate, Vocational Training, Language Teaching and Artistic Teaching.

In his speech, Antonio Navarro, president of 'Rotary Club Murcia', pointed out that "Rotary has a firm commitment to students because they are the future".

"This aid may benefit the society," he added.

For his part, Salvador Zamora, professor emeritus of the UMU and vice president of 'Rotary Club Murcia-University' has stressed that these scholarships are a fundamental stimulus for students at a stage of their training of vital importance.

The rector has also recognized the work of the beneficiary students to obtain these scholarships that reward talent, effort and dedication, but above all, he has stressed that "these helps engage them in the future and encourage them to continue working" .

Finally, José Luján has had words of thanks to the sponsors of these aids that "generously and selflessly contribute, with their love of knowledge, to improve the society of the future."
