Dr. Dolores López Vinader, one of the first collegiate ophthalmologists in Murcia, receives the 'Murcia in Equality' award.
The Plenary Hall hosts the institutional act of International Women's Day, which has been joined by people of all ages: students, professors, representatives of the Centers for Women, members of the Municipal Boards, the Municipal Council of Equality and the Municipal Corporation.
The City of Murcia distinguished today the work of women and institutions that are a reference for their example of improvement and work in favor of equality, on the occasion of International Women's Day to be commemorated this Friday, March 8.
The Plenary Hall hosted this collective tribute to the Murcian woman whose spearhead has been Dr. Dolores López Vinader, of the first collegiate ophthalmologist of Murcia, who received the award 'Murcia in Equality' from the mayor, José Ballesta.
The event was attended by people of all ages, representatives of the Centers for Women, members of the Municipal Boards, the Municipal Council of Equality, the Municipal Corporation and the responsible in the City Council for equality policies, the councilor of Social Rights and Development Cooperation, Conchita Ruiz.
Dolores López Vinader is now 85 years old and is one of the first ophthalmologists, who graduated in 1961 from Murcia.
He has worked in Social Security and performed surgery in hospitals arranged for 25 years.
He trained several colleagues in AMUVIM (Murcian Association of Senior Computer Volunteers) and for 14 years he has been helping and teaching people at risk of exclusion.
The mayor stressed that López Vinader "is part of the history of Murcia, a lucid and active mind that has been a pioneer both in its medical work and in its humanistic vision of the profession, becoming a precursor that has opened the way to new generations of Murcian women, that today in the Faculty of Medicine represent 70% of the students, being Murcia the third Spanish region with more university students ".
In the act took place the choir 'Federica Montseny', the Women's Center of Ronda Norte and the group of girls and boys of the school Santa Maria de la Paz, who performed the song 'Depende de los dos'.
Equality in the company, in sport and education
The Plenary Hall also hosted the award of the 'Equality in Business' award, which fell to Disfrimur, with its manager in charge, Isabel Sánchez Serrano, and in Televisión Murciana, an award that the journalist Azucena Marín picked up.
The distinction 'Equality in Sports' was for the Rio Segura School of Javalí Nuevo and for the IES La Flota, awards with which the City of Murcia recognizes the success of the School Sports Program for the promotion of education in equality, the rupture of sexist stereotypes in sports practice and the promotion of the value of competition among female students.
Likewise, the 'Educating for equality' award was presented to the Barriomar 74 school, with mention of the Santa María de la Paz center.
