José Ballesta presents the fourth edition of this event which is expected to attend 60,000 people on Saturday 9 and Sunday 10, an open, family and participatory event that make possible 60 Murcia sports federations.
Municipal investment in sport soars 33% in the 383 sports facilities, which have more than 271,000 users per year.
More than 8,000 athletes benefit from basic sports aid in neighborhoods and districts, with a total of 3.2 million euros.
The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, accompanied by the councilor of Sports and Health, Felipe Coello, and the president of the Union of Sports Federations of the Region of Murcia, José María López Gullón, today presented the IV Sport Festival, a fun event and sports for the whole family that will fill the main pavilions and spaces of the city with exhibitions, workshops and activities for all audiences.
The event, which will be held this weekend of March 9 and 10, will include more than 70 activities and will be developed over 110,000 square meters in more than a dozen sports facilities and public spaces in the city.
"This is the fourth edition of this initiative that has been consolidated as an open, family and participative sports event;
two days in which children and adults can enjoy a family day and meet new sports, while clubs, federations, companies and different groups disseminate their daily work, "said the mayor.
News 2019: Ski simulator and go-kart circuit
Among the main novelties of this year highlights a simulator with a ski slope in El Cagigal and a truck with virtual F1 simulators, flights and also EGames in the Fofó Park.
A go-kart circuit will be installed in El Cagigal, there will also be a circuit of mini-bikes and an equestrian track in front of the pavilion, in whose environment will also be installed a gallery of archery and Olympic and inflatable.
There will be food trucks under the pergola of Fofó Park and Saturday's events will be closed with a concert by Los Happys, at 8:00 p.m.
There will also be a Laser Tag on the José Barnes football field (competition with laser guns in an environment of inflatables), baptism of diving in the Mar Menor pool, baseball batting on the José Barnés sports center and golf in the Prince of Asturias , among other sports.
There will be a total of 17 hours of sport and continuous activity: Saturday from 10.00 to 23.00 and Sunday from 10.00 to 15.00.
Specifically, the places where the activities will take place are the José Barnés Sports Center, the Prince of Asturias pavilions and adjacent areas, Nuevo Cagigal, IES Infante, Fofó Park and Auditorium, Skate Park, Mar Menor heated pool, beach volleyball court and José Barnés artificial turf pitch, Santa María de Gracia pavilion and Murcia Tennis Club.
"It will be a weekend with both indoor and outdoor activities, adapted to the level of all, regardless of age and sex," said the mayor, who added that "we expect an influx of up to 60,000 people."
In the IV Sport Festival organized by the City Council together with the Union of Sports Federations of the Region, a total of 60 Murcian Federations participate, with sports such as rhythmic gymnastics, billiards, archery, judo, table tennis, triathlon, kickboxing , petanque, skate, cycling, skating, athletics, tennis, volleyball, parkour, trampoline, boxing, bowling, chess, basketball, zumba, fencing, aeronautics, swimming, motorcycling, hockey, badminton, athletics, football, rowing and a long etc.
The works of the Palacio de los Deportes advance at a good pace
The presentation took place at the Palacio de los Deportes, whose repair work on the facade is progressing at a good pace with an investment of more than 333,000 euros.
This project is the second major action carried out in recent months by the Department of Sports and Health in this pavilion with capacity for 7,500 people, after the complete renovation of the parquet floor.
In addition, the works include the whole environment, with the redesign of a playground, new fitness equipment for adults, fencing and plantations.
The deteriorated pavement will also be renewed due to the growth of the roots of the trees, extending the parterres around the perimeter.
The vehicle parking area will be completely renovated with new pavement.
There are also plans to improve the exterior lighting of the Palace with the installation of new low consumption LED lighting.
33% more municipal investment in sports
Murcia has a total of 383 sports facilities.
From 2015 to date, municipal investment in these facilities, which register more than 271,000 users per year, has grown by 33%, with 7.7 million euros.
Throughout this period, more than 400 sports, health, artistic and cultural events have been held in these sports facilities.
Of them, highlights the Sport Festival, which has gone from 15,000 to more than 60,000 participants.
More than 8,000 athletes benefit from sports aids
Grants to sports entities through public calls have increased by 94%, while those granted directly exceed 66%;
with a total of 3.2 million euros, supporting the activity of the various sports groups that promote the initiation of sports in neighborhoods and districts of the municipality and that bring together more than 8,000 athletes.
