The University of Murcia will host from the 4th to the 7th of March the First Conference 'From classrooms to 8M: Women in Political Science and Sociology', which will take place both in the Faculty of Economics and Business (Espinardo campus) and in the Rector Sabater Building (Ronda de Levante, 10).
The activities will begin this Monday, March 4, with the opening of the exhibition 'Sociologists: feminine plural', which will take place at 12 noon in the Faculty of Economics and Business.
The aim of the exhibition is to give visibility to women who have dedicated their professional and academic life to Political Science.
After the inauguration, UMU professor Lola Frutos will offer the paper 'Inequality in gender social relations from a feminist and sociological perspective' in the Faculty's degree room.
In the afternoon, at 6:00 pm, in the Rector Sabater building, the exhibition 'Politólogas: feminine plural' will be inaugurated, with the participation of representatives of the Mujeres Politólogas association, who will offer a talk with the UMU professor Antonia Martínez about 'The situation of women in Political Science in Spain'.
The next day, on Tuesday, March 5, Antonio García, a professor at the Complutense University of Madrid, will give a lecture on masculine affections and gender transformations.
In addition, will take place the 'I Forum of Feminine Leadership of the Region of Murcia';
a debate that will bring together the representatives of the main political groupings of the Region in order to generate reflection on the situation and the demands of gender.
With a more academic character, on March 6 will take place the round table 'Gender Inequality, social movements and political participation', in which teachers of the UMU will conduct a comprehensive analysis of gender inequality, social structure, participation policy and the institutional assimilation of the claims.
Finally, to close the conference, on March 7 there will be a double cinefórum session.
At 4:00 pm, the film 'Hidden Figures' will be shown in the Rector Sabater building, in collaboration with the Association of Women in Audiovisual Media (AMMA).
On the other hand, the documentary 'The crisis of care in global capitalism' will be screened at the Faculty of Economics and Business at 7.30 pm.
The conference has been organized by the delegation of students of the degree in Political Science and Public Management, in collaboration with the delegation of students of the Degree in Sociology and the Student Council of the University of Murcia.
