The blind and visually impaired people have, from today, the opportunity to discover these monumental spaces, through touch.
The scale reproduction of La Fuensanta has been installed in the back garden Sanctuary, while that of the Cathedral can be visited in the Plaza de la Cruz, both of them being configured "in points of tourist attraction", pointed out José Ballesta.
The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, along with the councilors of Modernization of the Administration and Urban Development, José Guillén, and of Social Rights and Development Cooperation, Conchita Ruiz, today supervised the installation of reproductions on a scale of the Sanctuary of Fuensanta and La Catedral, the first two inclusive works of art that make up the Murcia Typhlological Museum, which offers blind and visually impaired people the opportunity to discover these monumental spaces through touch.
Specifically, the scale replica of La Fuensanta has been installed in the back garden of the Sanctuary, while that of La Catedral can be visited in the Plaza de la Cruz, both works being configured "at points of tourist attraction," said José Ballesta.
The works, with signs in Braille writing, QR codes with audiovisual information accessible to people with blindness or visual impairment through the mobile phone, are made of cast aluminum and hand-modeled by hand, without sharp edges so that they can touch, feel and feel .
To the Cathedral -a key work of the Spanish Baroque whose construction lasted for four centuries and celebrates 551 years of its Consecration- and the Sanctuary of the Fuensanta, also of Baroque style and whose construction began in 1694, "other buildings will soon be incorporated historic buildings in the city, such as the Romea Theater, La Glorieta or the Las Claras convent, "said José Ballesta.
The models reproduce with millimeter fidelity each detail of the two monuments (from the imafronte of the Cathedral, its bell tower or the chains that surround the Chapel of the Vélez up to the dome or the lateral towers of the central facade of La Fuensanta), so that Blind people can feel with their hands every corner and architectural element.
The works, already in their final locations, have QR codes that link to the global audioguide of Murcia BlaBup, which can be downloaded at the following links:
