The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, attended this morning to the installation of the monumental sculpture of the series 'Guardians', created by the internationally projected artist Xavier Mascaró, who custody from today the entrance to the city of Murcia from the central avenue Juan Carlos I.
The work, which has been exhibited in the Champs Elysees in Paris, is inspired by the Cambodian culture of the twelfth century.
The sculpture acquired by the City Council is made of iron, measures almost three meters in height and weighs approximately one ton.
"We wanted this Guardian to guard, allegorically, one of the most important entrances in the city," said José Ballesta, who added that "we want Murcia, as a cosmopolitan city, to be at the forefront with works of art. installed in public spaces, turning our streets and squares into an open-air museum, like the great international capitals. "
