Huermur denounces the worrying state of conservation of the medieval castles of Larache and Cabezo de Torres, both in the Historical Site of Monteagudo, and declared of Cultural Interest.
The conservationist entity denounces an infinity of damages, detachments of parts of the defensive walls of the fortresses, huge accumulations of rubbish and debris, as well as the large amount of weeds that besiege these protected castles, before a clear lack of vigilance and control on the part of of the administrations.
Huermur will submit the corresponding complaints to the Directorate General of Cultural Property of the Autonomous Community, as well as demand immediate measures for the consolidation of the walls in poor condition and the cleaning without delay of the garbage and weeds of these monuments huertanos.
The Association for the Conservation of the Garden and the Heritage of Murcia (Huermur) denounces that the medieval castles of Larache and Cabezo de Torres sink between filth and indolence of the Ministry of Culture and the City of Murcia, since they present a worrying state of conservation and maintenance, since today these medieval fortresses dating from the XII-XIII century are plagued by garbage, debris, weeds, cracks, landslides and a patent lack of maintenance, care and surveillance.
Huermur, who has recently had access to the castle of Larache, very close to the Monteagudo fortress, has been able to see first hand the alarming situation of this monument that holds the category of Cultural Interest (BIC), and that is in full huerta of Murcia within the perimeter of the Historic Site of Monteagudo-Cabezo de Torres, which is also BIC.
This monument has a large amount of landslides and wear in the ramparts walls, as well as worrying cracks, and numerous weeds in all the walls and enclosures of the protected building.
It has also been found that the geotextile that exists in the upper part of the castle courtyard is in sight, totally destroyed and burned by the sun.
The castle of Larache, which is a fundamental part of the palatine complex of Monteagudo, is a fortified residence whose maximum height is in the 12th and 13th centuries.
This monument is, along with its large pool known popularly as the 'Huerto Hondo', a fundamental part of the history of the Historic Site of Monteagudo and the huerta of Murcia.
Likewise, Huermur has visited the castle of Cabezo de Torres, also BIC and included within the site of the Historic Site of Monteagudo.
It is a square building, about 40 meters on each side, and four angles appear inscribed on the square of the floor, but it has been possible to see how the current situation of this property is a real neglect, since It is totally covered with debris, garbage, rubbish, old furniture, and an abundant undergrowth that has accumulated over this cultural heritage for decades.
It has also been possible to see how several fences and metal poles have been nailed to the fortress and its towers.
In the same sense, the president of Huermur, Sergio Pacheco, points out that: "It is unacceptable that these two important medieval castles of the huerta of Murcia present this alarming state, literally sinking into the filth, without the Ministry of Culture and the Consistory of the capital worry the least about its proper maintenance, surveillance and protection.
Once again it shows that it seems that the Law of Cultural Heritage is adornment on the wall ".
Finally, from Huermur warn the Ministry of Culture and the City of Murcia, as the main responsible for ensuring compliance with the Cultural Heritage Act, which in addition to submit the corresponding complaints, the Regional Assembly will be informed of this situation , to be underway an investigation by the autonomous parliament on the situation of degradation of the castles of the huerta of Murcia, after the denunciation of Huermur in 2018.
