The protocol of intentions signed this morning includes the collaboration for the organization of an annual electric vehicle fair, as well as the boost to the network of charging points and the line of public subsidies for the purchase of automobiles, motorcycles and bicycles.
Navarro: 'This agreement is framed in the four fundamental axes in which the City Council works to move towards a sustainable Murcia: public transport, pedestrianization, the use of bicycles and electric mobility'.
The councilman of Urbanism, Environment, Water and Vegetable Garden, Antonio Navarro, and the delegate in Murcia of the Association of Users of Electric Vehicles (AUVE), Francisco Javier Martínez Abellán, have signed this morning a protocol for the promotion of electric mobility in the town.
The aim is to sign the commitment and willingness of both parties to join efforts to work on the promotion of decarbonised transport modes.
'The battle of sustainability has to be won in the cities', explained Antonio Navarro, who detailed the four fundamental axes in which the City Council works to move towards a sustainable Murcia: public transport, pedestrianization, the use of bicycles and electric mobility.
In this last aspect, the agreement with AUVE is attached, in which it establishes collaboration channels for the joint execution of activities aimed at the protection of the environment and projects that contribute to the achievement of the municipal strategy of adaptation to climate change and, more specifically the municipal electric vehicle strategy.
In the same way, it promotes the development of outreach activities that promote culture and environmental education.
Among the measures to be implemented in the scope of this protocol is the joint organization of an annual electric vehicle fair whose objective will be to bring Murcia to this type of mobility, respectful of the environment, and increase public awareness about the use of non-polluting means of transport.
Recharge network
In addition, the City will intensify efforts to ensure the proper functioning of the municipal electric vehicle charging network to increase its operation and efficiency.
At the moment, there are three free municipal recharging points in Glorieta, Plaza Circular and Paseo Florencia, and three others are well advanced, located in Jaime I (2) and Avenida Río Segura.
AUVE will be a preferred and necessary interlocutor in the design of new initiatives and in the evaluation of the actions carried out within the framework of the Local Strategy of the Electric Vehicle of Murcia.
They will also have institutional support in the dissemination actions promoted, such as conferences for entrepreneurs and entrepreneurs, training courses and workshops for professionals in the sector in order to promote the development of the economy around sustainable mobility, reducing polluting emissions and production of energy through renewable sources.
In this sense, Antonio Navarro has advanced that the City will promote awareness campaigns for sustainable mobility, the decarbonisation of public transport, investment in electric recharging infrastructure and innovative measures to encourage the acquisition of electric vehicles.
A roadmap to curb climate change
The Local Strategy of the Electric Vehicle of the Municipality of Murcia, which was recognized last September with the 'Renault Award for best practice in Sustainable and Accessible Mobility', in the category of Public Administration, represents the most important milestone in terms of support to the electric vehicle made up to now in the Town Hall.
It includes a total of 50 measures that aim to reduce polluting emissions, among which the following stand out:
- Thirty points of recharging electric vehicles, distributed by gas stations, shopping centers and public car parks.
The City Council is considering the possibility of tendering the creation of a public network of charging points, enabling new semi-speedy 'power stations'.
- In 2018 the first call for subsidies for the promotion of sustainable mobility and energy efficiency was resolved, which resulted in the granting of a maximum of € 300 for the purchase of electric bicycles and € 4,500 for electric cars.
47 aids were granted, 13 to cars and 34 to bicycles.
- Reservation of 50 exclusive parking places for electric vehicles whose occupation or availability is monitored through an App and with the exception of the ORA payment.
- Fleet of 30 electric vehicles for the maintenance of the parks and gardens of the municipality.
- Fleet of 21 electric vehicles and 29 powered by natural gas for street cleaning and collection.
- Fleet of 27 Murcia transport buses powered by natural gas.
- New system for renting electric motorcycles from the company Emissions 00.
- 18 km tram.
The commitment to the implementation of sustainable mobility includes other unique actions, such as the construction of 37 kilometers of bike lanes that cross the center of the city and connect districts.
The Department of Urban Planning, Environment, Water and Garden has also made a significant effort in the installation of 2,342 forks with 4,684 parking spaces for bicycles, to which are added the 17 closed parking with 340 parking spaces and 8 parking spaces closed Mobisec with 160 seats, in addition to the smart parking lot located on Avenida Gutiérrez Mellado.
