The University of Murcia, Caja Mediterráneo Foundation and Virtual Library Foundation Miguel de Cervantes have signed this morning at the UMU Rectorate a collaboration agreement for the convening of the XXIV Vargas Llosa Novel Prize, endowed with 12,000 euros.
All Spanish and foreign authors who submit works written in Spanish may attend the literary prize.
The works, which must be unpublished and not awarded, can be presented until July 19, 2019 at the Rector of the University of Murcia (Avda. Teniente Flomesta 5, Edf. Convalecencia, 30,003 Murcia (Spain). to know in Murcia at the end of this year.
Great convening power
Each author can send a single work.
The novels, which must have an extension of at least 150 pages, will be submitted to a contest under a slogan or pseudonym, accompanied by a sealed envelope or envelope, inside which the duly completed participation form must appear, which can be obtained from the aforementioned websites.
The University of Murcia, the Caja Mediterráneo Foundation and the Miguel de Cervantes Virtual Library Foundation have made this literary prize one of the most powerful international conventions among the novel contests in Spanish.
Proof of this is that with each new edition more novels are received, coming from many countries, has assured the professor of Spanish Literature of the UMU and President of the jury of the award, Francisco Florit.
The professor has also affirmed that the success of the award lies in the collaboration of the three sponsoring entities, as well as the competent human team that supports him, including a very important jury.
Florit has also said that the award "has gained a foothold in Spanish and Ibero-American culture," and that its goal is to encourage literary creation and give "a valuable boost to young values."
The writer and professor of UMU Rosario Guarino, coordinator of the Reason and Word Classroom of the Vice-rectorship of Quality, Culture and Communication, stressed that "for the University of Murcia, the award, which we wish and augur long life, is a source of pride "
For his part, the General Director of the Virtual Library Foundation Miguel de Cervantes, Manuel Bravo Lifante congratulated the UMU for "continuing with its commitment to culture" and stated that the Vargas Llosa is one of the important awards in Spanish, with a clear impact on the Hispanic-American community. "
Clemente García, First Vice-president of the Fundación Caja Mediterráneo, commented on how much the Murcia region owes to the UMU and said that after the long trajectory of the award "it is time for us to start a second stage: to make known what the Vargas Llosa prize through history ".
The Rector, José Luján, closed the ceremony and expressed his congratulations to all the parties and said he was enormously happy because this agreement was carried out for another year.
The initiative to convene a Novel Prize with the name of Vargas Llosa arose in 1995, when the University of Murcia decided to name doctor honoris causa to Mario Vargas Llosa, becoming the first Spanish university to distinguish the author of 'La fiesta del Chivo' with this appointment.
