The rector of the University of Murcia, José Luján, and the Councilor for Education, Heritage and Relations with Universities, Rafael Gómez, have signed an agreement for Murcia schoolchildren of the first cycle of primary education to visit the aquarium of this institution, located in the Artillery Barracks.
Francisco Esquembre, Vice Chancellor of Research, has outlined the importance of these visits to the University since the Aquarium is a unique scientific facility dedicated to the conservation of species, "but which also has a very important role in terms of dissemination. and the contribution in the awakening of scientific vocations ".
Rafa Gómez, meanwhile, explained that "during the 2018/19 school year the aquarium has scheduled 19 days for visits by schoolchildren from Murcia, which means more than 1,400 students can visit it for free, making educational itineraries for the guided installation by technical personnel and with delivery of material ".
Thus, schoolchildren can learn about the marine fauna that houses this aquarium, the characteristics of seas and oceans around the world, as well as the ecosystem of the Mediterranean Sea.
The content of the activity focuses on the aquarium and the conservation of the environment, strengthen some knowledge on the main characteristics of the seas and oceans and know the organisms of the sea and encourage interest in the environment and its conservation.
Thus, a geographical journey is made by the marine fauna of the planet, reflected in each of the aquariums, which reproduce the environment of the different oceans of the world including the Mediterranean Sea and the Mar Menor.
The rector of the University of Murcia wanted to thank the support of the City of Murcia for collaborating with this and other initiatives, "which mean in the end support the project of the University we want to move forward."
University and City of Murcia, Luján has stressed, have to go hand in hand in many challenges that the city has ahead.
This subsidy for visits to the Aquarium has been granted by the City since 2008, the amount for this year of 7,000 euros
