The cafeteria of the Faculty of Chemistry of the University of Murcia has been the meeting point this morning of chemical women and students, who have participated in the Global Women's Breakfast, which has been held in cities around the world world.
This breakfast is part of the celebrations of the IUPAC centenary and the International Year of the Periodic Table.
The Global Breakfast for Women aims to help women chemists expand their network of contacts, both locally and internationally.
Women at different stages of their careers can inform each other about the progress of their careers and together explore opportunities for professional development in companies, research or teaching.
Organizations of all kinds take part in the event: universities, companies, national chemistry associations, government entities and other scientific organizations, as well as individual groups of chemists.
The event held in the UMU chemistry faculty cafeteria has been broadcast live on the university website and all the chemical women of the Faculty have been invited to breakfast.
This breakfast has coincided in Murcia with the celebration of the International Symposium on women and the periodic table of the elements in the Faculty of Chemistry, which has led to women scientists with relevant positions within international organizations such as IUPAC are present.
They and their contributions have focused a good part of this breakfast.
Tribute to Professor Concepción Sánchez-Pedreño
The Faculty of Chemistry has taken advantage of the context of the commemorations of the Women's Day and the Girl in Science to pay a tribute to Concepción Sánchez-Pedreño, Professor Emeritus.
From now on a laboratory of practices will take its name.
The discovery of the plate was attended by eminent chemists of the International Union Pure and Aply Chemistry: Pilar Goya, EUChems President;
Nicole Moreau, IUPAC President, 2010-2011 and Natalia Tarasova, IUPA Past President.
Conference of deans and informative days
The symposium dedicated to women and the periodic table ends on Tuesday, but the acts in the Faculty of Chemistry continue.
This Wednesday, February 13, there will be a conference of deans, which will be attended by the heads of faculties of chemistry throughout the country.
In addition, it is also planned to carry out outreach activities for students throughout the day at the University Social Center.
Projections, games, informative talks and much more to convey the importance of the periodic table in the development of science.
All the program of this day can be consulted in this link.
