José Ballesta and residents of the district opened yesterday the new 'Plaza', a central meeting space of 1,300 m2 with green areas, banks, spaces to walk and have fun, and a stage for holding events.
The elements of modernist design are combined with a large mural that offers traditional images of the landscape of Llano de Brujas, with painted windows that 'open' to the Huerta.
The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, together with the Councilor for Modernization of Administration and Urban Development, José Guillén, and residents of Llano de Brujas inaugurated yesterday the new Plaza de la Alcaldía, one of the most central and popular areas of the district the City Council has completely renewed.
Subsequently, the members of the government team held a participatory meeting with the neighbors.
The works, which have been developed over the last nine months, have allowed the image of this deteriorated environment to be completely changed, resulting in a new 1,300 m2 neighborhood meeting point, together with the Mayor's office and the Municipal Center, which has green areas, benches, spaces to walk and have fun, and a stage for holding events in the district.
In addition to what the civil work entails in terms of the enhancement of this central space, we must add the social component, since for the execution of the work was selected 12 people in a state of unemployment: a foreman, nine officers of masonry and three garden officers, most of them, with ages over 55 years.
The amount of the action carried out in 'La Plaza', as this environment is popularly known, has been 60,000 euros, and has included its complete paving, the renovation of the stage, lighting and infrastructure, painting, gardening and irrigation network in the new parterres created with shrub plants and flowers, as well as the installation of anti-vandalism urban furniture, including benches, litter bins and a drinking fountain, among other works.
Windows that 'open' to the Huerta
In addition, the works have included the creation of the great mural Welcome to 'la Plaza', which represents the essence of the project: the combination of the modernist design elements of the square next to the painted windows that represent an opening to the Huerta with images traditional landscapes of Llano de Brujas.
