The Socialist candidate for the Mayor of Murcia, accompanied by the spokesperson of the Municipal Group, has visited the Assido facilities and is committed to expediting the procedures so that this organization can build their residence as soon as possible
The general secretary of the Municipal Executive and mayoral candidate of Murcia, José Antonio Serrano, met this morning with the organization Assido in a program of meetings with different groups working in the municipality for the care and integration of people with disability.
Serrano assured that "this association, which is close to 40 years of experience, is a great example of work, solidarity and generosity", and has highlighted its "extraordinary program of activities", some of them to raise funds because among its projects is the construction of a center with residence.
In this regard, the candidate has shown his willingness to streamline procedures so that this infrastructure "can be a reality as soon as possible and can meet its objective, which is to provide accommodation for people with Down syndrome."
Serrano, who recalled that, "as mayor I want to prioritize those neighbors who have greater difficulties, whether in the workplace or any other," said one of his projects is "work together with the regional administration and the organizations that assist people with disabilities, to promote residences and sheltered housing in order to help facilitate personal autonomy. "
Accompanied by the Socialist spokesperson in the Town Hall, Susana Hernández, the candidate has put in value the work of the Municipal Group that since 2012 has taken to the Plenary on several occasions the requirement to include social clauses in the contracts signed by the City Council so that in the specifications are awarded to companies that have already hired people with disabilities or are committed to hiring them.
Also, Serrano has committed to increase the percentage that the law requires to reserve people with intellectual disabilities in public employment offers, which is currently 2%.
"We believe that it is notably scarce especially when we know that favoring a job helps social integration."
In this regard, he added that "real, tangible equality has much to do with inclusion and this with access to employment, housing and leisure, because it is what guarantees autonomy and personal development, in addition to that by favoring policies with these objectives we will achieve true equality of opportunities to which our society has to reach ".
Another of the areas in which "we can act is promoting inclusive leisure in order that any person can enjoy the activities organized in the municipality in the best conditions, encouraging their participation and access to cultural heritage, to the festive events or shows. "
