UMU institutional trip to Brussels to establish contacts with research offices and organizations (06/02/2019)

A delegation from the University of Murcia, led by the rector, José Luján, this week made a trip to Brussels with the fundamental objective of obtaining first-hand information from the European institutions on the research and innovation framework program (FP9) that It is being developed and will happen to the Horizon 2020 program, as well as to know the activities of the offices of the Region of Murcia and the CRUE-CRUP in Brussels and the support they give to the universities.

The institutional visit took place between February 4 and 5 and has served to establish direct contact with the support offices of the universities located in Brussels, as well as the Permanent Representation of Spain to the EU.

The collaboration and work with these offices is a very important tool to advance in the internationalization of the UMU and continue to establish relationships and alliances with other universities at European level.

During the two intensive days in Brussels the delegation of the UMU has held meetings with the heads of the European Commission in research and innovation, as well as representatives of the agency responsible for evaluation and excellence processes.

Meetings have also been held with the representatives in the EU capital of the CSIC, the CDTI and the Carlos III Institute.

In addition, the delegation also met with UnILiON, an informal network that brings together more than 130 excellent universities in Europe, Japan and Russia, with a presence in Brussels.

The work sessions also included meetings with university policy experts from the European Commission;

as well as those responsible for the Management of Structural Funds and Research and the RIS3 program.

The long visit schedule included a meeting in the European Parliament with Vice President Ramón Luis Valcárcel.

In addition to the rector, the Vice Chancellor of Internationalization, María Senena Corbalán, participated in this institutional trip;

María Jesús Periago Castón, Campus Mare Nostrum coordinator;

Antonio Skarmeta, Director OPERUM;

and Gregorio Martínez Pérez, co-director of the OTRI.
