HUERMUR has asked the City of Murcia to perform a shock cleaning, remove fallen branches, accumulated weeds for weeks, as well as paving stones and concrete pieces and repair damaged furniture
The conservation organization urges that posters be placed on the importance of the Palmeral Chico, the species of palm trees, as well as signage in the surroundings to facilitate the arrival of visitors
The Association for the Conservation of the Garden and the Heritage of Murcia, HUERMUR, has urged the City of Murcia to carry out urgent maintenance and conservation of the Palmeral Chico de Zaraiche, as well as an emergency cleaning of this unique space of the Huerta of Murcia.
For HUERMUR, it is not acceptable that one of the few natural spaces that remain accessible in the Huerta de Murcia remains in this way, "full of weeds, with fallen branches or broken, and with an image of neglect and abandonment."
From the conservationist association they consider that "a greater effort must be made from the public administration to conserve in the due conditions this emblematic space, and for that reason we already requested last year its cataloging and protection so that it can be conserved with the necessary legal guarantees" .
For HUERMUR also "it is necessary to improve the environment of the Palmeral Chico, place informative signage, indicate the present plant species, signal the ditch and clean and open the fenced area next to it, so that you can understand the origin of the palms of our Huerta of Murcia, linked to irrigation ditches and irrigation. "
Finally, the Association HUERMUR stresses that already claimed 6 months ago, last summer, the municipal protection for this palm grove, to be cataloged as a unique and local interest tree, not being included in the PGOU of Murcia.
Despite this request, the City of Murcia has not deigned to answer the official request that HUERMUR has received.
Therefore, the conservation entity will make the appropriate municipal complaints to investigate this lack of response by the consistory.
