The exhibition, which "is a cultural event of the first order", will remain open to the public until April 28 at the Palacio del Almudí and the old church of Verónicas de Murcia
The president of the Community, Fernando López Miras, said today that the exhibition 'Floridablanca.
The shadow of a king '"is a cultural event of the first order with which we contribute to the recovery of memory, the figure and example of the first Count of Floridablanca and, possibly, the most universal Murcia."
López Miras made these statements at the Palacio Almudí de Murcia, during the inauguration of this exhibition composed of nearly 300 works through which the work and the time of José Moñino y Redondo, Count of Floridablanca and "Figura transcendental in the passage from the Enlightenment to contemporary history ".
It is one of the most complete exhibitions carried out on the Spanish 18th century or the reign of Carlos III.
The works that compose it come from 54 borrowers, among them the Museo del Prado, the Thyssen-Bornemisza, the National Archaeological or the National Library of Spain.
It occupies 1,800 square meters and is distributed in two venues, the Almudí Palace and the Sala Verónicas, an old baroque church of the 18th century, in which the works selected for this exhibition will be even more important.
The exhibition is organized by the Community, the City of Murcia and Acción Cultural Española, "an example of the fact that the loyal collaboration between institutions always gives fruit and opens the doors to success", said the president.
The exhibition has the collaboration of the Banco Sabadell Foundation and Gesa Mediación, to whom López Miras thanked that "they offer us the opportunity to enter a century of reforms through the figure of a man loyal to his country."
The president highlighted the involvement of the curator of the exhibition, the professor of History of Ancient and Medieval Art of the Autonomous University of Madrid, Isidro Bango, and its director, the professor of the University of Murcia Javier Guillamón.
Fifteen sections
Through the almost 300 works grouped in fifteen sections, this exhibition will recreate the imaginary that illustrates the work of Floridablanca.
Among the paintings you can admire, for example, works by Goya, Mengs, Batoni, Tiepolo, Maella or Bayeu.
The sculpture will be represented in the busts of Floridablanca or in the monumental equestrian statue of Carlos III of the Royal Academy.
The productions of the real stone, watchmaking and ceramic workshops will not be lacking, and among the works of artists of royal patronage is the pianoforte made for the Infanta of Spain, María Luisa de Borbón.
Drawings, prints and books on politics, science or literature will complete this exhibition that brings together works from real academies, museums, libraries and national archives, which are part of National Heritage and also some of the most important private collections in the country.
José Moñino y Redondo (Murcia, 1728-Sevilla, 1808), faithful interpreter of the ideas of Carlos III, took an active part in politics and was Secretary of State between 1777 and 1792. After his dismissal and a period in prison, he presided over the Board Supreme Court in 1808. López Miras highlighted the trajectory of this "Murcian, Spanish, politician and lawman", as well as his "innovative ideas and enlightened spirit", and stressed that "knowing his figure, his life and his work is a good way to do today, two and a half centuries later, more Region and more Spain ".
Therefore, during his speech the president invited everyone to "enjoy this important event," in reference to the exhibition, which will remain open until April 28 from Monday to Saturday (from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.) and on Sundays and holidays, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
