The Association of Residents of Puente Tocinos, the oldest in Murcia in active, celebrates its 50th anniversary this year with a program of cultural activities for all ages that includes concerts, dance, debates, meetings and actions for vindication.
This was announced today by the president of the Association, Mercedes Soler, and its representative in the municipal council, Pepe Caballero, in a press conference that has also been attended by other members of the same;
the designers of the commemorative poster, Juan Álvarez and Jorge Gómez and councilors of PP, PSOE and Cambiemos Murcia.
The Association was established on October 28, 1969 when a group of neighbors decided to join forces to improve the situation of the hamlet, located 2.5 kilometers from the city center and in which today reside more than 16,000 people
Among the "achievements" achieved by the neighbors, Caballero has highlighted the health center, heir of the ambulatory that was built thanks to the neighborhood struggle;
the youth center La Nave, which derives from the previous space dedicated to young people who inaugurated the Association;
the Summer School, in which 200 children participate each year, and the Summer Cinema, with more than 20 years of history.
Regarding active struggles, has referred to the need to "solve the problems of traffic" and public transport or the construction of a bike lane that links the hamlet with the center of Murcia and other districts, a historic claim they expect materialize soon.
An agenda for adults and adults
The calendar of activities that starts today with the presentation to partners and neighbors this afternoon at the headquarters, and continues in March with the celebration of the VIII edition of BIOPUENTE, the Fair of organic products, fair trade and healthy life in which from the sale itself, there will be children's entertainment, tastings, talks, exhibitions and a concert.
In April there will be the traditional protest march to demand sustainable transport and a bike path, and in May, before the holding of municipal elections on the 26th, there will be a debate of candidates of the political formations with representation in the City Council , with the participation of the citizens.
By June, the Association has organized a convivial meal open to all the neighbors and neighbors, while in July the School and the Summer Cinema will take place and in September an act in tribute to the deceased members.
The activities continue in October, the month in which the Association was formed, with the concert of a singer-songwriter or singer-songwriter "of the first order";
In November there will be a ballet show and in December, to end the year, a concert by the Band and Orchestra of the Bacons Bridge Municipal Association.
"Murcia does not end at Gran Vía"
The artists Juan Álvarez and Jorge Gómez, creators of the poster, have coincided in highlighting the value of the neighborhood struggle to improve neighborhoods and districts, because Murcia "does not end in the Gran Vía", hence his work in this case " it is not so much aesthetic, as ethics ".
Álvarez and Gómez have referred to the members of the Association as "fighters" who contribute to elaborate the "memory of a people" and who work for "the common good" through access to culture or mobility, from the base .
The illustration designed by both on this occasion reflects the passage of time since the creation of the Association, in black and white tones;
and in color the present and future of Bacons Bridge and its neighborhood movement.
