Starting this afternoon the neighbors and neighbors of Carmen will be able to contribute their ideas and proposals on the uses of the Pavilions 1 and 2 Artillery Barracks, currently in the rehabilitation phase, in four information points that will be placed in emblematic and central spaces of the neighborhood that citizens attend with assiduity, such as the health center, the Pedro Flores Garden Painter or the Floridablanca Garden.
The initiative is part of the project "Take the Barracks", promoted by the Municipal Board and developed by the University of Murcia, which during the months of November and December has carried out individual interviews and workshops with representatives of associations and groups, professionals of the field of culture and neighbors from different parts of the district.
"Ampas, merchants and ex-residents of the Cuartel, to name but a few, have helped to make a diagnosis of the needs of spaces of the Carmen neighborhood, which will now be completed with the proposals of the rest of the citizens," explained Marta Latorre and Isabel Cutillas, professors of the Department of Sociology of the University of Murcia and technical coordinators of the Project.
On February 22, an open meeting will serve to discuss and organize the resulting proposals that, together with the diagnosis, will be included in a report that will be delivered to the political leaders in order to be part of the future uses of Pavilions 1 and 2, in line with the approval of the City Council Plenary in June 2017. The agreement includes respecting the cultural purposes of part of the space and allocate some units to host the Railway Museum.
