The councilor of Urbanism, Environment, Water and Garden reminds that the City of Murcia has been a pioneer in the Region and one of the 8 in the country that approves a protocol of transparency and information on air quality, with specific measures and recommendations
The pedestrianization of Alfonso X, which will earn 8,000 square meters for people, the construction of 37 kilometers of bike lanes in the urban center, the creation of a green path that will connect the districts of the Costera Sur, the approval of a local strategy of the electric vehicle with more than half a hundred measures or the opening of five dissuasive car parks with capacity for 750 cars are some actions put in place by the City Council in the last three years.
These actions show 'the involvement and awareness of the Government Team to make Murcia a more livable, sustainable and environmentally friendly municipality', explains the Councilor for Urban Planning, Environment, Water and Kitchen Garden, Antonio Navarro.
Among these measures, it stands out the reduction of 95% of traffic in Alfonso X compared to the traffic before pedestrianization.
The vehicles that passed through this avenue before the works in an hour are the same that travel this road throughout the day.
Since 2015, 11,000 trees have been planted since 2015, which has meant the removal of more than 8,000 tons of CO2 from the atmosphere.
Likewise, the creation of a network of Green Paths is verified in different projects, in addition to the Green Path of the South Costera, with the adaptation of the Alquibla Canal between Algezares and Los Ramos, the Acequia de la Puxmarina in La Raya or the Green Path next to the Armero Mill, in Cabezo de Torres.
Navarro recalls that Murcia has been the first municipality in the region to approve this document "precisely to objectify the measures in situations like the current one" and thanked Murcia for their 'collaboration and understanding' and underlines that they have access to information in real time because 'in this matter, as in all, transparency prevails'.
On the other hand, regarding the report of Ecologists in Action, it should be clarified that Murcia has not exceeded for 8 consecutive days the limit value of 50 micrograms of PM10, as stated by the environmental organization.
