NOW MURCIA claims that the proliferation of terraces in the vicinity of the church of San Juan Bautista "can be dangerous for security."
The councilor Alicia Morales explains that the presence of tables and furniture in the squares of San Juan;
Cristo del Rescate, and especially in the narrow street San José "can prevent the passage of emergency vehicles, as they have been denouncing neighbors in the area."
Morales points out that this is one of the areas of the city "with a higher percentage of land occupied by the terraces of restaurants and cafeterias, which causes inconvenience to neighbors and makes it difficult for pedestrians and people with reduced mobility to transit."
In this sense, the mayor recalls "the City Council's obligation to make the city a comfortable, livable and healthy space for all residents, instead of encouraging and allowing the systematic occupation of public spaces."
The councilor notes that in addition to ensuring accessibility, "it is essential that the City guarantees steps for emergency vehicles, firefighters and health services, a guarantee that is put into question when places or narrow pedestrian streets, such as San José, they are occupied by tents, heaters, tables, etc. "
In view of this situation, now Murcia is going to request the reports that the Fire, Civil Protection and Local Police have made, "to know the possible emergency and evacuation protocols that exist for the San Juan and Cristo del Rescate squares, and for the street San José ".
Alicia Morales also emphasizes that "the City Council and the Autonomous Community should take into account that the church of San Juan Bautista is a BIC (Property of Cultural Interest), which entails obligations to protect the monument and its surroundings that are unfulfilled with the installation of tables, tables, chairs, and even containers, stuck to the facade of this church ".
