The Palacio Almudí and the Sala Verónicas will host next Monday, January 28, the opening of this exhibition that delves into the figure and the legacy of the Count of Floridablanca The Autonomous Community, the City of Murcia and Spanish Cultural Action finalize the assembly of the 300 pieces from the Prado or the Thyssen-Bornemisza that make up this unique exhibition, in which works by Francisco de Goya stand out.

The shadow of a king ', which will open next Monday, January 28, in the Sala Verónicas and the Almudí Palace in Murcia.
Through nearly 300 pieces, the life and trajectory of a transcendental figure in the passage from the Enlightenment to contemporary history will be remembered;
the enormous labor of this reformist man who has possibly been the most universal and influential Murcian in history: José Mońino y Redondo, first count of Floridablanca.
The mayor José Ballesta said that "290 years after his birth, Murcia pays homage to José Mońino, Count of Floridablanca, one of Murcia who has most influenced the history of Spain."
Councilor Guardiola explained that this project "was born as one of the most complete exhibitions on the eighteenth century Spanish or the reign of Carlos III and, without doubt, will become a major cultural event in the Region of Murcia during the next year, since it brings together nearly 300 pieces donated for example by the Prado Museum, the Thyssen-Bornemisza, the National Archaeological or the National Library of Spain.
Works that, exposed in almost 1,800 square meters, offer a really interesting route to get to know better one of the great figures of Spanish history, culture and politics ".
The person in charge of Culture also stressed that "for this great exhibition two unique cultural spaces of our Region have been selected, two historical reference buildings such as the Almudí Palace, created in the 15th century, and the Sala Verónicas, an old Baroque church of the 18th century, in whose interior the works selected for this exhibition will be even more important ".
The exhibition, which is curated by the Professor of History of Ancient and Medieval Art of the Autonomous University of Madrid, Isidro Bango, also has the collaboration of the Banco Sabadell Foundation and Gesa Mediation.
In this sense, it affected the necessary collaboration between the Community, the Murcia City Council and Acción Cultural;
"An intense and fruitful synergy that is also enriched by the support of private companies and that allows big projects to be undertaken".
"A union thanks to which we can go further and build, among all, a stronger, more open and inclusive culture, and a better Region of Murcia," said Guardiola.
Fifteen sections
Through the almost 300 works grouped in fifteen sections, this exhibition will recreate the imaginary that illustrates the work of Floridablanca.
Among the paintings you can, for example, admire works by Goya, Mengs, Batoni, Tiepolo, Maella or Bayeu.
The sculpture will be represented in the busts of Floridablanca or in the monumental equestrian statue of Carlos III of the Royal Academy.
The productions of the real stone, watchmaking and pottery workshops will not be lacking, and among the works of artists of royal patronage is the pianoforte made for the infanta of Spain María Luisa de Borbón.
Drawings, prints and books on politics, science or literature will complete this exhibition that brings together works from real academies, museums, libraries and national archives, which are part of National Heritage and also some of the most important private collections in the country.
José Mońino y Redondo (Murcia, 1728 - Seville, 1808), first count of Floridablanca, lived in a convulsive period that was debated between the staunch conservatives of the institutions and the revolutionaries.
For half a century, Mońino, a faithful interpreter of Carlos III's ideas, took an active part in politics and was Secretary of State between 1777 and 1792. After his dismissal and a period in prison, he presided over the Central Supreme Junta in 1808.

The shadow of a king 'will remain open until April 28 and the schedule will be from Monday to Saturday, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm and from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm, and on Sundays and holidays, from 11: 00 to 2:00 p.m.
