A total of 474 people have participated in the program 'Murcia practices equality' which has been organized thanks to the collaboration between the Department of Social Rights and Cepaim Foundation during the past months of October and November.
This initiative has been made up of three differentiated activities: The viewing of the documentary 'The pimp, short step bad milk', training talks on equality and gender perspective and a few days of socio-educational intervention in gender perspective and new masculinities.
At the viewing of the documentary 'The Pimp, Short Pass Malame', which premiered on October 24 in the Centrofama movie theater, a total of 294 people attended, of which 254 were women and 40 men.
The main objective of this activity has been to raise society's awareness of the social problem posed by trafficking in women and the sexual exploitation and violation of rights to which women and girls are subjected throughout the world, in addition to preventing the consumption of sexual trade of women.
The training talks on equality and gender perspective, which took place on November 26 and 29 in the Carmen neighborhood, were followed by 43 people, of whom 35 were men and 8 women.
This initiative aims to raise awareness in society in general and men of different cultures and origins to be involved in the fight for gender equality and involve the public in the prevention and action against gender violence and the promotion of family co-responsibility
Finally, on November 9 and 10, the Centro Párraga hosted a series of socio-educational intervention sessions on gender perspective and new masculinities, in order to transfer experiences of good practices and group intervention proposals with men from a gender perspective and addressing the new masculinities.
137 people attended this conference (95 women and 42 men).
The Councilor for Social Rights, Conchita Ruiz, has indicated that "these results show that Murcia society, both men and women, wants gender equality in our municipality." From the City Council, in collaboration with various associations such as CEPAIM Foundation, we will continue to strive to involve everyone in achieving this goal of making Murcia a fairer city ".
