Unicef ​​will develop a project to improve the right to health through access to sustainable sanitation in 30 rural communities in the eastern region of Burkina Faso, thanks to a grant of 27,230.51 euros from the Department of Social Rights and Development Cooperation.
The objective is to contribute to the right to health in 30 rural communities of Burkina Faso, through the implementation of a methodology that seeks to provoke changes in the sanitary behavior of the communities and, therefore, the elimination of open defecation.
In this way it is favored that the people who decide how to create a clean and hygienic environment that benefits everyone in their communities.
Project strategies include the activation of the community's commitment to change behavior, the self-construction process of latrines, the construction of sanitation in schools and health centers, the establishment of Sanitation Committees for the maintenance and management of the facilities, home visits and the promotion of proper hygiene practices.
The proposal presented benefits about 2,100 households in 30 communities in the Eastern Region of Burkina Faso, which is about 15,000 people.
Of these 15,000 people, approximately 7,800 are women.
It is estimated that a family is composed of about 7 members, 5 of whom are boys and girls.
Thus, of the total rights holders, approximately 5,000 are adults and 10,000 are children.
