On January 2, 2008, 11 years ago, the Board of Landowners tried to demolish the historic Mill of Oliver, in Aljucer, paralyzing the City Council the works after the neighborhood complaint, and that led to the municipal sanction to the Board of Landowners, forcing its reconstruction
Despite the time that has elapsed, the sanction is still not executed and the building has not been rebuilt yet
AJVA proposes that once it has been rebuilt, it will be the headquarters of a "Heritage Studies Center" that will investigate and disseminate the importance of cultural heritage as a historical legacy of the Huerta de Murcia
This January 2 is the 11th anniversary of the attempt to demolish the Mill of Oliver by the Junta de Hacendados de la Huerta de Murcia.
Before the local pressure, which led a group of aljucereños to stand in front of the excavator shovels, and the denunciation of the associative groups that, like AJVA, we demanded that the City Council paralyze the demolition works of the Mill and that the Justice investigated the damages to his BIC shield.
The City of Murcia paralyzed the works and, finally, sanctioned the Board of Landowners for the illegal demolition, forcing its reconstruction and to pay a fine .. On the other hand, the Justice condemned the then president of the Board of Landowners and the Council of Good Men for an offense against the historical heritage, for the damages caused to the BIC heraldic shield that existed on the facade of Oliver's Mill.
This conviction was the first criminal sanction for crimes against the historical heritage to those responsible for a property recognized as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
Having passed 11 years without those responsible have complied with the municipal sanction and without the City of Murcia has executed its obligations to enforce the sanctions it imposes, from AJVA request that all the appropriate procedures be expedited and that the City of Murcia and its council of Urbanism begin the subsidiary execution of the reconstruction work of Oliver Mill.
The AJVA Association, an Aljucrean entity that has been carrying out cultural and juvenile activities in the district for more than 15 years, was one of the initiators of the administrative procedures related to the damage to this mill.
In this 11th anniversary, and before the forced reconstruction of the building, AJVA proposes that once it is rebuilt, the building has a public use and open to the public, both of Aljucer and the rest of the municipality and the Huerta de Murcia.
For this reason, AJVA proposes the location in the building of a "Center for Heritage Studies", which reflects the trajectory that has been carried out in the hamlet of defense, study and recovery of cultural and ethnographic heritage, largely related to irrigation, the Huerta de Murcia and its landscape.
The "Oliver Mill Center of Heritage Studies" would be an ideal point to connect the defense actions of the Huerta, continue studying the historical, landscape and social importance of irrigation and hydraulic infrastructures, from the largest ditches to the small armbands that They served as communication channels and passage for our ancestors, exhibited from AJVA.
For the entity, it is necessary to have a physical point where we can exchange experiences of study and defense of heritage, investigate and disseminate the values of a historical and cultural legacy such as our heritage, unique in the world, and that made our Huerta of the UNESCO World Heritage Site distinction for an oral and customary justice system that is currently at risk of disappearing and losing this world recognition.
Finally, AJVA is going to launch a campaign both on the street and in social networks to claim the reconstruction of Oliver's Mill, as well as going to collect support for it among other heritage associations and conservationists.
The entity aljucereña will create profiles on various social networks to disseminate this initiative and collect the support of all individuals and entities that want to add.
