The new list of conditions for the supply of energy includes this condition for the first time and will allow Murcia to consolidate as a municipality more energy efficient, better lit and more thrifty.
The cost of the contract amounts to 19 million euros and lasts until November 2020.
The new energy supply contract of the City of Murcia, approved today by the Governing Board, includes for the first time in the specifications the requirement to be supplied entirely from sustainable energy sources.
It is an innovation that responds to the commitment to take care of the environment and stop the advance of climate change, and that will allow Murcia to consolidate as a municipality more energy efficient, better lit and more thrifty.
The cost of the contract amounts to 19 million euros for a period between the end of April - when the current one ends - until November 30, 2020. The tender is processed in three lots: one for temporary supplies, another for the supply of the municipal buildings and the third lot for the supply of public lighting.
In all cases, 100% of the energy supplied must be clean (solar, wind, etc.), without the presence of fossil fuels.
The City Council manages more than 600 buildings and municipal facilities and the extensive public lighting network -one of the largest in Spain-, which has more than 90,000 points of light and an installed capacity of more than 11MW.
According to a study by the Local Energy Agency of Murcia, this dimension means that its electricity consumption accounts for 4% of the total registered in the municipality.
