What hides behind the reddish sunsets of the Mar Menor? (17/12/2018)

The Unit of Scientific Culture of the University of Murcia (UMU), in a new episode of Science in Short, reveals the relationship between the wonderful reddish sunsets that we can see in our beloved Mar Menor and a scientific discipline as fashionable as biotechnology vegetable.

This relationship is achieved through a multidisciplinary process involving many branches of science such as physics, chemistry, environmental engineering, genetics and many others.

The reddish colors of the sunsets are due, mainly, to the refraction and dispersion processes that occur in the atmosphere.

However, other factors also influence, such as the presence of aerosols in the environment to enhance the intensity of these sunsets.

Beyond the aesthetic effect, the compositions of these aerosols also favor the descent of the rains, so necessary in the south of the Levantine coast.

It is before this problem when plant biotechnology enters into action.

How?

It is the discovery that all those who see this new short film until the end can do.

With the fifth episode dedicated to the Mar Menor, the Scientific Culture Unit closes the first season of the successful audiovisual dissemination cycle that has allowed to demystify certain beliefs and solve scientific doubts of our day to day.

Functional foods, pseudosciences, rare diseases and football have also been the protagonists of these videos.
