A campaign alerts Murcians about the scams that increase at Christmas (17/12/2018)

'Close the tap to the scams', promoted by the Abandoned Jesus Foundation and the Red Cross, reminds Murcians who never ask for money in cash.

The councilors Lola Sanchez and Conchita Ruiz emphasize that there are perfectly normalized channels to provide donations and warn that, in the slightest doubt, they should turn to the Local Police.

Christmas is a time prone for unscrupulous people to take advantage of the goodwill of people and, for that, they do not hesitate to resort to all kinds of scams, scams and deceptions.

Therefore, it is time to alert the Murcians to fall into these frauds.

The director of the Jesus Abandoned Foundation, Daniel López, Mercedes Navarro, president of the Spanish Red Cross in Murcia, accompanied by Conchita Ruiz and Lola Sánchez, councilors of Social Rights and Development Cooperation and Traffic, Security and Citizen Protection, respectively, have asked this morning to make an appeal about the increase of scams on these Christmas dates.

The campaign "Close the tap to the scams", promoted by the two solidarity organizations, aims to warn about this risk that involves the appearance of people who go to homes, supplanting the identity of Jesus Abandoned members and Red Cross.

In this way, "they manage to defraud people, who with all their good will, seek to help" for the social purposes that these solidarity organizations have in place.

Therefore, Daniel Lopez, director of Jesus Abandoned, asks citizens "not to be fooled by this type of practice."

«Jesus Abandoned never asks for houses, nor sells lottery, nor ballots nor organizes raffles of any kind».

López warns of the existence of people who call private homes, "asking for donations with a false card with our logo, and even with photocopies of old brochures, now in disuse."

For its part, Mercedes Navarro, president of the Spanish Red Cross in the municipality of Murcia, shows that "voluntary teams go to the homes of many people who benefit from our programs and projects, to develop their work in solidarity, but always making an appointment. previous with these people ».

Navarro emphasizes that "almost 40% of the Red Cross funds allocated to the most vulnerable people in Murcia comes from citizen collaboration."

To encourage this collaboration "it is true that our people go to request help wherever people are and, among other destinations, the homes of the residents of Murcia."

Never cash donations

Our teams go to the homes to explain the work of the Red Cross, properly uniformed, accredited, with information and forms of the organization, in case someone wishes to collaborate becoming a member of the Red Cross or showing the existing channels to make donations and, if someone provides your data, it is called immediately from the Institution to verify said data ».

"Under no circumstances do we request or accept donations of cash, and everything is done within the stipulations of the Spanish Association of Fundraising."

From Jesus Abandoned also stress that "we can develop our work thanks to the solidarity of the people of the Region of Murcia, so we ask that aid be made through the official channels and these events, no matter how isolated, seriously undermined the enormous work of thousands of volunteers ».

People who want to collaborate with Jesus Abandoned can make their donation through the web www.jesusabandonado.org, making a bank transfer, calling 968 34 50 01 or the mailboxes that exist for it in the different parishes of Murcia.

Local police at your service

Likewise, both Conchita Ruiz and Lola Sánchez remind the neighbors that they can always count on the support of the City Council for whatever they need.

'Before any doubt, the Local Police is at the service of all and it is convenient to resort to them if they knock on our door asking for strange donations', explains the Councilor for Security.

Also, the owner of Social Rights stresses that there are some standardized channels and known by all to make donations to the entities of the third sector and any request that distances from these channels should alert us and make us suspect.
