The Mayor José Ballesta, and the Colonel Director, Miguel Ivorra, today inaugurated the roundabout, which has installed a 3,500-kilos aircraft yielded by the Ministry of Defense, placed on a structure of 4.7 meters in height. -101 has contributed to the formation of more than 800 pilots, among which its majesty King Felipe VI.
Both the gravel of colors used for the conditioning of the roundabout and the decorative lighting with 8 led projectors simulate the contrails of the aircraft
With the chords of the Hymn to Spain performed by the music band of the General Air Academy, this morning has opened the inauguration of the Beniaján roundabout, where a plane E.25-46 House is exhibited, which will henceforth symbolize the Homage of the city of Murcia to the Academy of San Javier.
The act, which ended with the Hymn to Murcia, has been chaired by the Mayor, José Ballesta, along with the Colonel Director of the military center, Miguel Ivorra, and has also had the presence of the president of the municipal council of Beniaján, Francisco Hernández, and members of the Municipal Corporation.
A plaque placed in the monolith and discovered this morning expresses in its legend 'the admiration, respect and affection of Murcia towards an institution that since its creation 75 years ago forming future officers of the Air Force has always maintained a close relationship with Murcia' , said the Mayor.
With a total of 4,971 flight hours and more than 1.9 million km traveled (five times the distance to the moon and 47 times the return to Earth), the C-101 of the Rincón de Villanueva roundabout has contributed to the formation of more than 800 pilots, among which his Majesty King Felipe VI stands out.
In the last weeks the works that have concluded today with the exhibition of this airplane have been developed, that was yielded by the Ministry of Defense by means of an agreement of collaboration with the City council of Murcia.
Road safety
In addition to becoming a tribute tribute to this institution, the installation in the roundabout next to the El Canute curve on the road to Beniaján entails an added benefit, since it contributes to increasing road safety in this road.
The reduction in speed achieved by roundabouts or roundabouts in the circulation is produced, to a large extent, by the perception that drivers have of the existence of an obstacle in their path (the central islet of the roundabout), which forces them to stop , to divert its trajectory and surround it.
The landscape treatment of the central island of the same (plantations, sculptures, etc.) increases this perception.
Until the conditioning done now, the central island of this roundabout was on land, without any element or vegetation, being in an urban environment in which the speed is limited to 40 and 50 km / h in its accesses.
Decorative gravel and ornamental lighting
The works carried out by the City Council, through the Department of Infrastructure, Works and Services, directed by Rebeca Pérez, consisted in the placement of the CASA E.25-46 aircraft of 3,500 kg on a metal structure of 4.7 meters height, and the conditioning of the gazebo with the placement of geotextile and decorative gravel, as well as the lighting of said ornamental element.
The works required a geotechnical study for the calculation of the foundation, executed with reinforced concrete footings with the necessary dimensions to ensure the limit state of balance and to ensure a correct distribution of vertical tensions to the ground.
In this foundation, the anchor plate was placed on which the supporting structure was to be welded.
Likewise, emergency braking zones have been enabled by a bed 50 cm thick, with gravel of 20 to 30 mm in diameter, and protection with geotextile to prevent clogging.
In the workshop, the load-bearing structure of the aircraft was manufactured with steel metal profiles of 4.70 m in height, variable section on its long side (350 mm of edge at the base and 250 mm at the top) and 200 mm on its underside, with a rigorous quality control of the welds.
In the upper part of the support, the anchoring plate was welded, which of this plate in the mast is the one that determines the position of the airplane, both in inclination of the nose and wings.
Intervention of a crane
The placement of the aircraft required the intervention of a 40-ton crane.
Screwing and soldering the anchor plate of the twin plane of the structure.
Final adjustments and final assembly were made with the support of a basket crane.
The roundabout conditioning project has been carried out with colored gravel, simulating the contrails of the aircraft.
For the decorative lighting, 8 LED-type projectors were placed, 4 of them under the plane and the remaining 4 in the columns of the perimeter of the round, while in the colored stelae LED strips were installed, adapting the color according to the stelae, giving it a dynamic effect.
