The mayor of the orange formation Carlos Peñafiel will urge in the Plenary next Thursday the government team to include as criterion to assess in the awarding and execution of municipal contracts the absence of a salary gap according to the formula set by Eurostat.
"From Citizens think that this gap can only be corrected with greater involvement of all agents and society, including companies and public administrations," said Peñafiel, who explained that "it is a measure that will contribute to put an end to this wage difference by forcing companies to contract with the public sector to lead by example. "
"The concept of the wage gap is one of the major concerns of our society in terms of gender equality," said the mayor of Cs, who recalled that "according to the latest data from FEDEA, women earn 12.7% less per hour than men doing the same job as them. "
In this sense, Peñafiel has highlighted the importance of quantifying the wage gap in an objective manner, so that for the bidder the application of the weighting criteria is made transparent because of these social considerations, for which he has proposed to use the established formula by Eurostat for the calculation of the wage gap at European level.
"We must fight for an open society, that understands and recognizes the merit of women, and banish the wage gap, glass ceilings and gender violence," said the councilor of Cs.
