Juan Varea Porras received the anonymous Solidarity Prize last night at an event held in the Hemicycle of Letters.
This recognition, granted by the University through the School of Social Work together with the Volunteer Platform of the Region of Murcia, values the effort of anonymous people who devote a good part of their lives to helping others.
Varea has worked as a volunteer at the paraplegic hospital in Toledo, at the Telephone of Hope for more than 30 years in different tasks, and as a member of the association Psychologists for Change, which carries out different programs with prisoners.
In addition, he has also spent three years helping disadvantaged families in the parish of Coihueco, in Chile.
The Anonymous Supporter 2018 considers that this recognition "is like a gift, a caress that you do not expect" and encourages anyone to become a volunteer "because you receive much more than you give".
Juan Varea believes that "in this life the most important thing is to show love."
The jury valued "the commitment of a lifetime dedicated to others from anonymity, for the depth of his work as a volunteer and for his vital commitment to others."
