The Real and Most Illustrious Cabildo Superior de Cofradías of the city of Murcia, in a session held today, is honored to present the list of Nazarene distinctions for the year 2019 approved unanimously.

Nazarene of the Year: D. Antonio Zamora Barrancos

Mayor of the Cabildo: Ilmo.

Mr. D. Arribas Jesus Scrambled (Colonel Head of the Fifth Command of the Civil Guard of Murcia) and the Ilmo.

Antonio Zamora

Antonio Zamora Barrancos, is a Nazarene of strong Catholic beliefs committed to the traditions of Murcia.

In love since he was a child of Holy Week, at the age of 17 he wore for the first time a tunic in his beloved Brotherhood of Hope, of which he was secretary for more than fourteen years;

42 years later, he continues to parade every Palm Sunday as steward of the Christ.

27 years ago he had the opportunity to become a brother of the Brotherhood of the Christ of Forgiveness.

He is the butler of the brotherhood of the meeting although for 25 years he has exercised the privilege of keeping the rhythm of the procession head.

In 1986 he became along with his great friend Angel Galiano Meseguer in the foundational shelf of Cristo del Amparo, owner of this Brotherhood, of which he has been for 12 years, Senior Councilor and currently Vice President.

Likewise, he is a silent Nazarene procession every Holy Thursday accompanying the Lord of the Refuge for 25 years and for two years also belongs to the Brotherhood of Health.

Last year he participated in the parade of the brotherhood of Charity carrying the standard of San Juan and the parade of Our Risen Lord on the morning of Easter Sunday.

He was Nazareno of honor of the Brotherhood of the Hope in the year 1993 and distinguished by the Forgiveness in the 2017.

His collaborations with Holy Week are not confined to these 5 five brotherhoods to which he belongs;

but he goes to the call of this Cabildo superior de Cofradías when he is needed.

Thus, he was part of the procession team that organized the International Congress of Brotherhoods last year, is a member of the procession team of the Angel and participates every year in the organization of Via Passionis.

Today at 59, he continues to maintain the same enthusiasm, faith and desire to work for Easter Murcia that the young man who made his debut in Esperanza.
