The collective regrets that they have had to need countless writings and complaints about the poor state of this protected property, as well as request agility in the consolidation work of the Huertano building and the signage with information about the works
Huermur hopes that these works are the beginning to recover this historic mill from the garden, which was already in the inventories of the nineteenth century, and not only to cover the doors and roofs, to leave it propped up without any deadline
The Association for the Conservation of the Garden and the Heritage of Murcia (Huermur) celebrates the consolidation works that are being carried out in the historic Alfatego Mill to avoid its definitive ruin, since today it is protected under the protection of the cultural heritage regulations.
Members of Huermur appeared yesterday in the channel of Alfatego, on which sits this mill huertano, to see first hand the work being done on this cultural property of the hamlet of El Puntal.
From Huermur they emphasize the historical importance of the Alfatego acequia, since Alfatego is an Arabic place name that appears in the documentation written at the end of the 14th century (Torres Fontes, 1975), and on the other hand, R. Pocklington in his book Acequias Arabs and Pre-Arabs in Murcia and Lorca: Toponymic Contribution to the History of Irrigation, attributes greater antiquity to the ditch Alfatego than to Churra la Vieja, stating that its origin may be of the fourteenth century meaning al-Fat iq "El Quebrado".
In the same sense, Huermur requests greater agility in the accomplishment of the consolidation works and that the same ones are not a simple patch, that cause that once finalized this huertano mill falls again in decades of abandonment and neglect, reason why they request its integral and definitive restoration.
Finally, Huermur asks that signs be installed on the works that are being made, as well as general information on the importance that the Alfatego Mill has had for the Huerta de Murcia and for the districts of Espinardo and El Puntal.
