Murcia joins the commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (10/12/2018)

A dozen social entities have participated in the act that has organized today the City of Murcia, through the Department of Social Rights and Development Cooperation, led by Conchita Ruiz, along with the Coordinator of NGOs, to remember the 30 principles collected in the document approved in Paris, on December 10, 1948, by the General Assembly of the United Nations.

In front of the monument homage to Human Rights in the Plaza de Santo Domingo, the participants, among whom were representatives of the political groups of the Municipal Corporation, have read the manifesto of the Human Rights Day of the United Nations, highlighting that "a Although the social, economic and political context in which the Declaration was adopted was very different from the current one, the content of the document continues to be applicable today and with special emphasis on virtually all of its articles, as they continue to be an objective to be achieved and that has not yet been achieved "has highlighted Conchita Ruiz.

The Universal Declaration of Human Rights is equality, dignity and freedom

The United Nations, through the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, places special emphasis on the following aspects:

The UDHR empowers us all because it establishes the equality of all in dignity and value.

Confirms that the State has the essential obligation to promote living standards that allow us to exercise our dignity and equality with greater freedom.

Human rights are relevant for everyone.

Human rights include our right to live free of fear and misery, freedom of expression, rights to health and education, and to enjoy measures aimed at promoting economic and social justice.

Our common human condition is based on these universal values.

We are interconnected.

These human rights that we all have in common, mutual solidarity and compliance with human rights obligations are the bonds that unite us on this planet we share.

Equality, justice and freedom prevent violence and maintain peace.

Respect for human rights and the firm and impartial application of the rules of the rule of law to resolve conflicts are essential for peace and development.

At any time or place in which the essential values of humanity are abandoned, we all run a great risk.

We are at a crossroads.

Attacks on human rights carried out by people who try to take advantage of hatred and exploitation, damage freedom and equality both locally and internationally.

It is possible to resist these tendencies and we must do it.

We must defend our rights and the rights of others.

Each one of us can do it.

We can take measures in everyday life to defend the rights that protect us all and thus promote the brotherhood of all human beings.

"For this reason we must commemorate today the Declaration of Human Rights, with the global commitment to advance in all its content, so that in the future we can achieve that they are a reality for all humanity," Conchita Ruiz concluded.
