The collaboration between the City of Murcia, the Juan Ciudad Foundation and Covide-AMVE (Vincentian Cooperation for Development) will allow two humanitarian aid programs in the State of Kerala (India), which last summer suffered heavy monsoon rains as a result of which 90 people died and there were significant damages that affected more than 60,000 people.
The projects were addressed in both meetings of the Council for Cooperation and Solidarity and councilor Conchita Ruiz today signed the corresponding agreements with both entities.
The one promoted by the Juan Ciudad Foundation aims to guarantee the survival of families affected by floods in the state of Kerala and prevent epidemics among the population displaced by water-related diseases.
For this, the actions that it will carry out are:
- The distribution of food aid kits and WATSAN for the victims relocated to shelters and camps in the vicinity of Kanjirapaali, as well as the acquisition of medicines for the primary care of 200 displaced families in the Idukki District and the control of diseases derived from the water in the SJG Hospital in Kattappana.
- Purchase of banana seeds and provision of composting tanks for 200 families of Changanasserry.
- Construction of 5 latrines in Changanasserry.
- Minor reform works in 20 houses in the three districts.
For its part, COVIDE-AMVE will count on the help of the City Council to guarantee the coverage of the basic needs of those affected by the floods: water, food, clothes, medicines, mattresses, bedding and household goods.
In both cases, the subsidy granted amounts to 7,500 euros each.
