The Autonomous Community, the City of Murcia and Spanish Cultural Action organize this exhibition that will become one of the great cultural events of 2019
The insurance brokerage Murcia Gesa Mediation collaborates in the dissemination of the figure and the legacy of the Count of Floridablanca through a major exhibition that will open on January 28 in the Sala Verónicas and the Palacio Almudí de Murcia.
The Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia, the City of Murcia and Acción Cultural Española organize the exhibition 'Floridablanca.
The shadow of a king ', which will gather more than 300 works of art from the most important museums and galleries in the country, as well as documents and pieces that will recall the life and career of a transcendental figure in the history of Spain.
The exhibition recreates the imaginary that illustrates the work of José Moñino y Redondo, the first Count of Floridablanca, who may have been the most universal and influential Murcian in history:
In this sense, Mariano Albaladejo, CEO of Gesa Mediación, and as a businessman from Murcia, said "our contribution is a contribution to the dissemination of the culture of Spain and its history, through art, through such a character insigne, with that great vision of future and of State ".
The diligence of the Count of Floridablanca supposed important advances for the commerce, for the Spanish economy of the XVIII century, leaving deep traces that have arrived until today.
"He was a self-made man, as is the character of Murcia businessmen, always opening borders from Spain to America or Europe of his time," added Albaladejo, for whom, "with this important exhibition, with the collaboration of Gesa Mediación, we aspire to contribute to its recognition and to the greater diffusion of its ideas and its work ".
The exhibition, curated by the chair of History of Ancient and Medieval Art of the Autonomous University of Madrid, Isidro Bango, was presented by the Minister of Tourism and Culture, Miriam Guardiola;
the mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, and the programming director of Acción Cultural Española, Santiago Herrero.
The counselor explained that this project "was born as one of the most complete exhibitions carried out on the Spanish 18th century or the reign of Carlos III and, without a doubt, it will become a cultural event of the first order in the Region of Murcia during the next year , since it brings together nearly 300 pieces donated for example by the Prado Museum, the Thyssen-Bornemisza, the National Archaeological or the National Library of Spain ... Works that, exposed in almost 1,800 square meters, offer a really interesting route to be able to know better one of the great figures of Spanish history, culture and politics ".
The person in charge of Culture also stressed that, "for this great exhibition, two unique cultural spaces of our Region have been selected, two historic reference buildings such as the Almudí Palace, created in the 15th century, and the Sala Verónicas, an old Baroque church from the 18th century, in whose interior the works selected for this exhibition will be even more relevant ".
In this sense, it affected the necessary collaboration between administrations, this time the Community, the City of Murcia and the Ministry;
"an intense and fruitful collaboration that is also enriched by the support of private companies and that allows undertaking great projects".
"A union thanks to which we can go further and build, together, a stronger, more open and inclusive culture, and a better Region of Murcia," said Guardiola.
Works by Goya, Mengs, Batoni, Tiepolo, Maella or Bayeu
Through the almost 300 works grouped in fifteen sections, this exhibition will recreate the imaginary that illustrates the work of Floridablanca.
Among the paintings you can, for example, admire works by Goya, Mengs, Batoni, Tiepolo, Maella or Bayeu.
The sculpture will be represented in the busts of Floridablanca or in the monumental equestrian statue of Carlos III of the Royal Academy.
The productions of the real workshops of stone, of watchmaking, ceramics will not be lacking, and among the works of artists of regal patronage it emphasizes the pianoforte made for the infanta of Spain Maria Luisa de Borbón.
Drawings, prints and books on politics, science or literature will complete this exhibition that brings together works from real academies, museums, libraries and national archives, which are part of National Heritage and also some of the most important private collections in the country.
The holographic reproductions of two works of the Science Museum, the recreation of the Carlos III Hall of the Customs of Barcelona and the digital show of the oath of fidelity to Don Fernando de Borbón as Prince of Asturias will draw attention.
José Moñino y Redondo (Murcia, 1728 Sevilla, 1808), first count of Floridablanca, was a man of his time;
a convulsive period that was debated between the staunch conservatives of the institutions and the revolutionaries.
For half a century, Moñino, who was a faithful interpreter of the ideas of Carlos III, took an active part in politics, performing, between 1777 and 1792, the position of Secretary of State.
After his dismissal and a bitter period in prison, he presided over the Central Supreme Board in 1808.
