Members of the municipal council of El Progreso today delivered semiautomatic defibrillators to the three schools and the social center of the neighborhood, thus complying with the motion presented by all the groups jointly in the plenary session last February.
In Spain, around 70,000 people die each year from acute myocardial infarction, approximately 30,000 of them due to cardiorespiratory arrest before reaching the hospital, figures that demonstrate the need for cardioprotection when saving lives.
In this sense, the high-traffic spaces, such as schools, or the social center itself, of which the senior center, a canteen, a hairdressing salon, classrooms and an assembly hall are part, are "susceptible" places to cover with instruments that help with a cardiac incidence.
With the provision of these defibrillators, the aforementioned spaces become "cardioprotected", a certification for which it is necessary to guarantee the correct operation and maintenance of the devices, as well as the training of personnel in cardiopulmonary resuscitation techniques.
The supplying company gave courses aimed at the teachers of the educational centers of the neighborhood and people from the social center, and from the meeting activities will be carried out to expand the training regarding the use of the defibrillator and basic life support.
