Hostemur denounces that Murcia's leisure police has only been created to "criminalize" hoteliers because of the noise (29/11/2018)

"They are criminalizing us, they point us out as the only ones responsible for noise problems in Murcia".

This is how Jesús Jiménez, president of the Regional Federation of Hospitality and Tourism Businessmen (Hostemur), expresses himself before the start of the activity of the "leisure police" of Murcia, which, according to a tweet from the mayor José Ballesta, will control on foot "Noise levels and bar closing hours".

"We do not need an overregulation because we already periodically spend in our establishments the corresponding controls and inspections, it is another measure by the municipal officials of this 'Blindness' to falsely blame Murcia hospitality and charge it," denounced from Hostemur.

"We believe that the problem is in the streets, where the businessmen do not arrive, who are professionals who know the legislation and comply with it, and if they do not, the inspectors are there to inform," says the president of Hostemur.

In its allegations before the new municipal regulation on noise this entity requested corrective measures, such as awareness campaigns, aid for acoustic efficiency or this mediating leisure police.

"We proposed that the agents help neighborhood coexistence, especially by the excesses of customers in the streets, as hoteliers are subject to weekly inspections of all kinds to verify that they exercise the activity correctly, it is not necessary to duplicate that action" , point from Hostemur, which has almost 4,000 members that integrates all associations and professional groups in the hospitality and tourism sector in the Region of Murcia.

Part of the solution

For this entity, the leisure police should be a collaborative body with the business community, which serves to manage the noise where the employer can not reach (departures, trips, etc.) and where it is no longer their competence.

"We are sure that with the union of administration, catering and merchants will be able to achieve the desired acoustic objectives," predicts the president.

"What is not acceptable is that Ballesta says that the leisure police is to raise the awareness of the businessmen of the premises, since the innkeepers are well aware and a clear example is that these patrols are a reality based on their request", They protest in Hostemur.

"We also want noise reduction in our city, but this is not the way," says Jimenez, who recalls Hostemur's third awareness campaign for rest in May.

Its motto was 'We are part of the solution' and among other actions, 10,000 stickers were distributed with different slogans, such as "Susurrame al Sueno" or "Hablame bajo", to inform citizens that it is possible to combine enjoyment on the terraces of Murcia with the rest of the neighbors under a framework of respect and coexistence.

Without solutions in Alfonso X

"This decision is part of the erratic way of acting of this City Council with the hotel trade", explains Jiménez, who as an example points out that Alfonso X has already fully resumed the activity after the works, except that of the terraces of the establishments of the environment.

A fact for which the City of Murcia has not given any justification and is causing large losses to these entrepreneurs.

"Even the Christmas booths of the merchants have been placed, but it's been eight months without terraces, time in which the innkeepers are keeping jobs," Jiménez complains.

"Murcia can not enjoy its cuisine in this traditional area of the city, and given the dates and months enduring these works have ended the viability of many businesses and there are proposals for layoffs and closures," announced from Hostemur.
